PAPER-SHEET-FEEDING MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 22, 1912. Serial No. 698,999.
' employed whereby the sheets are automatically fed to the machine. In the event of an interruption or disturbance occurring in such machines 1n order to prevent the sheets from accumulating and causing obstructions,
' the sheet feeding mechanism has to be ing thrown out of action whereby rapidly rotating and relatively heavy parts such as the combing rolls are ultimately brought to a complete standstill. Inre-starting the sheet feeding mechanism such heavy parts have obviously to be brought again to their required rotary speed and this cannot be effect ed without detriment to the working of the machine.
Now according to the present invention the above draw-backs are obviated by the provision of a device controlled by the at tendantand adapted to so cooperate with the lever operating the combing roll that by the actuation of the device the combing roll is tripped to and held in its highest position while the remaining parts of the sheet feedmechanismand also the combing roll continue to operate at their normal speed and thus are always held in readiness for the working.
A constructional form of a device according to the present invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing which shows the lateral elevation of a sheet feeding mechanism provided-with the new controlling device.
The sheet feeding mechanism is substantially of the construction shown in my prior Us S. Patent 967077 and consists of a vertically movable slider B which is under the action of a spring C and in opposition to this spring is held in its lowest position by a lug 9 arranged on a rocker E. On the axis F of this rocker is mounted an arm G pivoted to which is the usual trip lever H.
,tion of the other As the sheet is fed forward by the combing.-
Patented J un'e 1'7, 1913-.
r011 A it lifts the trip lever H which thereby causes an arm I to be brought into engages ment with a friction disk K secured to and; 1, driven by the constantly rotating shaft'hii 3 By this engagement the arm L an with it. the arm G as well as the arm Eiare forced? back so as to free the sliderB which is then ing combing roll A to be raised out of engagement, w; h the sheet into the position indicated in dotted lines.
My new device consists of a double armed,
drawn up by its spring C thereby so aetuatr a lever mechanism M N as to cause the lever 1 which is used to act on the shank N of the lever M and to force the arm N into the dotted line position shown in which the combing roll is raised out of action. To this end the end of the lever arm N is provided with notches 0 adapted to coiiperate with the roller arranged on the respective end of the lever T.
Inasmuch as it is' often desirable to adjust a series of sheet-feeding devices simultaneously the levers T can be connected by a cdmmon rod P attached to which is a handle U. By rocking the whole of the levers T 8 0 combing rolls of all' sheet feeding mocha into the dotted lines position shown the nisms are thrown out of action without affooting the continued working of the individual sheet feeding devices.
What- I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In the herein described sheet feeding mechanism. the combination with the combmg roll and the rocking carrierfor said combing roll, a
carrier thereof, of a notched manually operated double armed lever, one
arm of whichcarries a roll freely, resting in the notch of said carrier and which arm is adapted on its manipulation to swing the said carrier 50 as to release the combing roll without affecting the continuous operaarts of the mechanism. In testimony w ereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
