Description

lO f
riuso n. BEYER, or wILKrNsBUno, PENNSYLVANIA.
'Ain-MorsrnNiN-GAND DUST-snr'rLrNG DEVICE ron namafrons.
Speccation of Letters'Patent.
Application filed December 23, 1912. .Serial No. '738,337'.l
To 17/ ir/zo/I- if 117/73/ concern.'
Bc it known that I, HUGo'R. BEYER, a subject ot' the `llmperor of Germany, residing at ti'illrinshm-g, inthe county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Air-ililoistening and Dust-Settling Devices for Radiators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
- exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to makefand use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawy ings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon', which form a part of t-his specification. y
rIhis invention relates to new and useful improvements in air inoistening device and dust settler for use in connection with hot water and' steam radiators and comprises a simple and etlicient device of this nature so arranged that it may be conveniently placed upon a radiator and the contents of the device heated and moisture given olf by the dust which rises with the heated air caused to be deflected into water and settled.
The invention lcomprises various details of `construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will'be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying'drawings and'tlien specifically defined i'n the appended claim.
l illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, `in which Figure l is a side elevation showing my air moistening device as applied to a radiator. Fig. Q is a' cross sectional view through the same. Fig. 13 is a side elevation of a modification of the invention, and Fig.
4 is a transverse section through' the modified form.
Reference now being had to the det-ails of the drawings by letter. A designates a. receptacle having a bottom B which is adapted to rest upon the top of a radiator C and the side walls of said receptacle have projections D extending below the bottom and adapted to extend down upon opposite sides of the radiator, thus forming a two-fold purpose, namely to deflect the heat up against the bottomand also serve as a means to hold the device securely in place. A de\ fleeting hood F, convexed upon its top, is tted over said central opening E and a slight distance above the top thereof and is adapted to .cause the heated airand dust carried thereby, which pass up through said opening, 'to be deflected downward against the surface of the water contained within the receptacle A.
In Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings, I have shown a slight modification of the invention in which the receptacle K rests upon the radiator C and, instead of havingthe lopposite sides of the receptacle projecting down upon either side of the radiator, a plate O is fastened in any suitable manner to the receptacle and has its upper end O downwardly curved, serving as a deflectingniember to cause the heated air which may rise intermediate the plate and the adjacent wall of the receptacle to be directed down into the water of the' receptacle.
By the provision of an air moistening and dust settling device embodying the features of my invention. it will be noted that the heat of the radiator is utilized in heating the water within the receptacle, causing the same to evaporate, while any dust which may be taken up by the hot air and coniing in contact wit-h the hood will be deflected into the water, causing the same to settle and the heated air taking up moisture. It has been demonstrated that ak larger percent-age of evaporation will take place by the construction o f my improved air moistening device than with 'ordinary open receptacles withoutthe features embodied in the present invention.
That I claim to be new is :F
An air moistening and dust settling device for radiators comprising a water containing receptacle adapted to rest upon the radiator, the side walls of said receptacle extending down over the opposite sides of the radiator, the bottom of the receptacle provided with a' centrally disposed slot, the walls of which extend upwardly above the bottom, and a concaved defiecting hood overl the upper edges and spaced apart from the walls of said slot, as shown and described. In testimony whereof l hereunto affix my signature in vthe presence of two witnesses.
HUGO R. BEYER.
