SEWER-PIPE SECTION.
Specification of Letters 'Petent.
Patented June 3. MM 2 Application filed October 4, 1912. Serial No. 723,983.
it) all eohom it may concern: Be it known that I, WILLIAM H'nzsnr Boon, .Jr., 'a citizen of the United States, residing. at Akron, in the county of Summitfiiand State of Ohio, have invented new and'usefullmproveinents in Sewer-Pipe ranged shoulders at opposite ends whereby when two sections are longitudinally abutted the'projecting portions or shoulders of. co adjacent "sect-ions will overlap and with the overlapping portionsout of contactto-torin a transverse mortar groove forv securing the sections together longitudinally for build ing up the sewer or conduit.
More spe c1fically, .the 1I1V6I1t1OI1 consists in providin each section with alongit-ufinally-extending transverse ,web which is 4 adapted to project atone end of the section and to be cut away at the opposite end so as to. form in connection with the inner wall of a 'coadjacen-t section a transverse mortar chamber; the chamber between the "-we'b'and the inner wall of the section at the ends constituting a; chamber comnninicating with the transverse .n'iortar groove to providea mortar clench."
With theforegoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts constitutingvthe invention to be hereina'fter specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings whicn form part hereof whereln 31s shown the pie.
a terred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood-that changes, variations and modifications can beresorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended;
"The present invention relates to a specific form of the device -'shown,-described, and claimed in Patent 1,031,328 granted to me Sept, 3 -1912, and'in this present constructionr'the inner Wall lized-to form one of the ivalls of the chain beithat" receives the mortar forming vthe .fileflch-g f I v I wings. 'ri which similar refer ence numerals in icater like partsin the of the section is uti-- (lllltlfllll) figures. Figure l. is a pers iiectiveyicw of a. sewer pipe section embodying this invention;- Fig. 2, is a transverse sectional view of a portion of a sewer constructed of sectionssiinilar to the one shown in Fig. 1, with the sections assembled to form a sewer of a given dianieteryl ig. 3, is a view Silllilar to Fig. '2 with the sections assembled to form a sewer of greater diameter than the diameter oi the sewer shown in Fig. :2; Fig. 4, 1s a longitudinal sectional 'view on line )1 of Fig. 2 showing two siuiilarly-constrl'icted sections longitudinally abultted, and Fig. is
v a side elevation showing two sections longitudinally abutted.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be stated that all sections embodying this invention will be similarly constructed and each sectio-nembodies an inner wall 1 and an outer wall 2 preferably formed in arcs of circles and parallel with each other and united at their sidesby radial walls 3 and {i and preferably by a central strengthening wall ousually arranged radially with respect to the axial line of the sewer. Extending between the lateral walls. 3 and 4, is a transverse wall or web 6,, connected to the'central wall 5. The lateral wall a is preferably provided with a longitudinallyextending groove? and the lateral wall 3 with a laterally-pro 2ct1ng rib 8, the groove 7 and the rib 8 being constructed in arcs of circles with the radius of the are described by the rib 8 preferably less than the radius of the are described by the groove 7 so thatwhen the sections are laterally juxtapositioned aradial movementof the sections is permitted to enable. the constructing of sew- 'ers of various diameters as illustrated in Figs; 2 and 3.
' In constructing the. sections one or" the walls, say, by way of example the inner wall 1 is cut away at- 9 and atthe opposite end 13 of the section the outerwall 2 and the transverse web Gare cutaway thereby providing reversely-arranged shoulders at opposite ends of each section, by this ar- 'rangeinent when two sections are abutted longitudinally the pro ectmg transverse web Got one section will overlap and cooperate with the corres onding projecting portion ofthe inner we 11 of a coadjacent section, thereby providing a transversely -extendgroove 10 to receive a binding element in ll for locking the ends of coadjacentsections firmly together in building the sewers or conduits. The space between the'web 6 v and the ,wall 1 of-the conduit constituting a longitudinallyextending}chamber 12 which communicates with the transverse groove-l0 formed between the ends of the web (land the Wall of-the' coadjacent section and this chamber afiords means for, mortar to enter to form aj mortar c1ench.. In laying up sewers, the sections willbe assembled so as to break joints in the usual manner employed in building structures of this material with the ribs 8 of each section. positioned within the grooves 7 .of co.adja-' cent sections.
I claim:
.A hollow tile having inner and outer par allel walls united at their ends by lateral radial walls, said radial vwalls united by a' transverse wall or webs'paced from the in nor Wall to provide a mortar chamber, the
Lowers outer: wall and; web eat away (a, bile. end of 4 the section-and" the inner wallcut: awayi at the opposite" end of the a section, the" project ing or uncut portions constituting sh'caiil .ders whereby when two tile are abutted:Ile'n':
gitudinally the transverse web of one tile overlaps the r'oj ectin'gflinner wall .ofa adjacent section and out of contact there with to form a transverse mortar groove, the chamber exlstlng between theinnerwall I and said transverse web constituting a mormy hand inpresen'ce of two subscribing wit IIGSSGS- WILLIAM H.
