- rowan WASHING MACHINE 00., or PEORIA, ILLINOIS, a CORPORATION or ILLI- 1,062,310. Original application filed July e, 1908,
To an whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,-Jorr.\' -H. SPEAS, a citizen of the. United States, r siding at Caze'novia, in the county of \Voodford and Stateof Illinois, have invented certainnew and usefullmprovements inDriving Mech- "anisms, of which the following is a spec1fication. I This invention has reference to improvements in driving mechanisms and has for its object to provide a drivingmechanlsm more especiall applicable .to the operating means of a was ling machine and like structures.
The invention-has for a further object the driving mechanism for washing machines and like structures which is poweroperated and with' which the operating means of the washing machine may .be moved into and out of operative engagement with said driving mechanism.
This application is a division of my prior application, bearing Serial N umber 441,982
filed July 6, 1908. For a further and full description'of the invention herein and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the meansfor. effecting tlfe I result, reference is bad to the following description and drawings. hereto attached.
While the essential and characteristic features of the invention are susceptible of modification, still the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustratedin the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my imroved machine; Fig. 2 is a plan view of ig. 1 with a portion of the frame broken away and the power washing machine removed; Fig. is a vertical cross section of the machine as the same would. appear if ,taken on' the line 33 of Fig. 2. Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the figures.
, In the drawings, a frame support is shown comprising the front and rear side sills 1 which ate-united by bein connected to-four 415 legsmr'standards4,and raced by the angle .iroir'strips 5, as.v shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The
:frame support further comprises two longifituditmli spaced braces 6 and v7, which extend one end sill-or brace 3.10 the other,

ing connected with the upper and lower faces thereof, angle iron strips 8, which serve as tracks on which a frame support ing certain wringer mechanism may travel, and in connection with a third track 9, which is an angle Iron strip extending lengitudinally of and attached to the front sill 1. The brace 7 serves as a support together with the sill 2, for a cross brace or sill 10, bestseen in Fig. 2, which supports an upright or standard 11, for a purpose to 'be more fully described, and said upright is braced from the brace 7 by the strip 12, as
shown.
A hinged frame to which a washing machine may be secured, is composed of the transverse beams 13 and 14 and the longitudinal beams 14", which connect the transverse bcams 13 and 14. The beam 14 is preferably hinged at 16 to the-end sill 3 of the main frame support, and when this frame is in its normal position or that position seen in F i s. 1 and 2, the beam 13 rests on the longitudinal brace 7, and the sill 2, as shown. A washing machine, referably, a power machine, which I have Indicated as 15, is placed upon this frame and secured thereto by the stay rods 15, which engage with the upper edge of the washing 'machine, as shown in Fig. 1, and at their lower ends secured in a suitable manner to the beams 13 and 14. This washing machine may be of the type shown in the drawings, or of any preferred construction, with power devices connected with the lid thereof, as shown, and supportingit in the manner in which I do on-a hinged frame, it will be seen that when it is desired to move the washing machine out of the way for any 'i purpose whatever, or to tilt the same for the purpose of drawin the water therefrom, that the frame, to w ich the same is secured, and which I have just described, will be raised.
Extending longitudinally of the machine, and having its opposite ends journaled. respectively to one of the end sills or braces 3 and the cross brace 10,- is a driveshaft 27, on the inner end of which is-- carried a pulley 28,f i w hich may be driven by a belt 29 from any "suitable source of power, such-as gasoleneQn'giize or othermean's, "Also on. said drive s end thereof is carried a sprocket'pinion iaft'and at or-.-'near the inner which operates a sprocket chain or other endless belt 31, which engages the same, and said sprocket chain passes around and transmits powerto a sprocket pinion 32 carried by a short stud 33, supported at the upper end of the upright 11, and said stud 33 also carries a pinion 34, which may or may not be integral with the sprocket pinion 32, and WltllrSilid pinion 34 is intended to mesh a gear wheel 35, carried by a shaft, 35", being elements included in the operating mechanism of the washing machine and supported b the hin' ed member of said machine 3 l5 7 my application bearing Serial No. 441,982,
and w ch it is not -thought necessary to further describe, as such parts 'or mechanisms do not form apart of the appended claims. i
