" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WESLEY G. HARVEY, 0F WELLSVILLE, NEW YORK.
SAD-IRON CLEANERAND WAXER.
Be it known thatI, WESLEY G. HARvnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vv'ellsville, in the county ofAllegany. and
State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sad-Iron Cleaners and Waxers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved combined cleaner and waxer, designed to keep the ironing surface of a sad iron clean and in good working order.
To this end the invention has in view. a simple and durable article that may be readily taken apart and assembled, and also to provide a combined sadiron cleaner and waxer wherein the cleaning part isprotected from the wax, when the hot iron is placed on the waxed fabric. A
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novelcombination and arrangement of arts as will more fully e appear as the descriptionof the case proceeds.
Referring to the accompanying drawingsFigure l is a perspective view of the body block ready to be used as a cleaner. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the assembled device ready to be used as a waxer. "Fig. 3 is a cross section through the com lete I waxer and cleaner. Fig. 4 is a side e evation.
Like reference characters designate corresponding parts in the several figuresof the drawing. 1
Referring to the several figures of the drawing the numeral 1 designates a molded body block that is preferably round in form and made of cement or other plastic material'that is capable of being molded. The
, underside of the block is partially dished out so as to provide finger space for 6 inga transverse rib 2 that serves as a ban '5 t at maybe surfaced with emery kf Embedded in the'body for the said bl etal reinforce bars 3 that material areends 3 which perform a function ereinafter referred to. When the block is molded an annular de 'ression is made on the edge of the uppe side forming a seat 4, and concaving a raised central portion owder or other' suitable abrasive materia The s ueng raised centralabrasive portion 5 has fitted b i over the top thereof a cotton or' uivalent {shrine which fabricalso covers e entire Specification of Letters Patent.

.top of the body block. In order to protect. the abrasive surface 5, a protecting plate 7 of copper or any suit-able met-a1 isinter-j posed between the said-surface and the cot ton or equivalent fabric covering.
To clamp the several parts of the structure together a clamping ring 8 havingan inturned holding ,fiange' 9 at its upper edge, is providedto inclose and fit over the body and the edge of the fabric 6'. The said clamping ring 8'is provided with opposite.
To assemble the device the body 1' is grasped by the handle 2 and the protecting plate 7 is laid over the raised surface 5. Then, 'thecotton fabric 6 is placed over the protecting plate so that it entirely covers the top-of. the abrasive body,- When this has been done the ring 8 is placed over the Patented May 20, 1913'. --Application filed July 16, i912. body and the fabric, which in turn holds down the protecting plate, so that theba 0- net slots 10 register withthe projecting ar ends 3. When the said ring 8 is properly" -advanced downwardly on the block- 1, it is rotated so that the holding flange 9 binds the edges of the cotton fabric' 6 securely in the depressed seat 4. The device is then ready for use as an iron waxer, after the.
said cotton fabric 6has'bee'n waxed-with any desirable wax, such as employed for ironing purposes.
When itis desired to use tlleabrasive'surface of the body portion for cleaning or general sharpening-purposesjiit-isonly necessary to remove the clamping ringuby 'ch rotating it in the opposite direction to w it was locked on,' and remove the waxed fabric and protecting plate The abrasive surface will then be available 'and ready for b being free from melted wax, because of the protecting plate which When it is desired to use the device fora silver cleaning or polishing surface the waxedfabric may be removed, anda disk of canton flannel or other suitable material,
substituted, and a silver polish or other polishing material may be laced upon the fabric audit is then ready or such use.
When using the device as an iron waxer, it may happen that sometimes the ring would be caused to stick to the cement body block by the melted wax. Therefore, in order to provide for removing the ring 8 when this condition arises, there are placed omen: mbec le ay be obfiainefi r6:
the ring in order to easily separate it from the cement block. I From the f'm'egoingdescription, the various features and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, and minor ;-cleta-ils of constructionmay be resorted to withoutSacrificing .or injuring the scope of .-t-he; invention. ,15
