To whomit may concern BERNEY, of Pawtucket, in the county of Providence,`

in the State of. Rhode Island, have invented certain Improvements in Egg-Beaters, of which thefbllowing isa specification.,

'The object of this-invention-,is to construct an eggbeat'er with three revolving beaters, aud in such manner that the' substaileeof the legg subject to their action can becompletely' broken and beat `up in a `shortertime and in a more complete manner Athan has heretofore been done);` and l It consistsin the employment ot three revolving beaters, two of which are removable, and the arrangement ofthe gearwheels that operate them.

Inlthe drawings-'- o Figure lis a side elevation of the-beater, and Figure 2 is a transverse elevation of thesame. Egg-beaters asgenerally constructed have their revolving beaters or cutters made fast iu the machine,

which, when there are more than one,makes it diiiicult to clean themthoroughly, as all the parts cannot be accessible for such operation, but by having the two outside revolvingbeaters removable, makes- 4the operation-oi' cleaning them easier, and can be bett'er performed onfall the beaters. i

The removing vthe beaters is accomplished by `lutving the foot-rest a spring, with the pivot-pins that the 'feet of the 'two outside beaters revolve aroundfast therein, and :extending but a short dis- 4tanceabove the upperside of the bottom-oi' said side beaters. A i g `Ais the principal metal supporting frame, and having the loop-handle top A', by which the beater is `held ,in position while in use, and terminates iu two feet,A, at the bottom, which receive au'd support the-axis of the upper ends of' the two outside removable beaters, as seen in tig. l. o

There is centrally-inserted in the bottom of flame A, and made fastfthereim and between feet' A, a guide-shaft, l), which` is made the axis of small ceuter-gear wheel OA and spur-gear wheel D, which is east'with or` firmly attached to wheel() and revolves therewith. y 1 I v l l `This shaft extends down in the 4center of the middie beater to and through thespring foot-rest c, where it isV made fast at c', and passes through the brace a that supports middle beater c. 4

n a a'are the'two outside removable beaters, constructed from thinystrong sheet-metal. strips, and l 'made fast tothe under sides ofV wheels D D', yand revolve upon a pivot-piu at their bottom ends, which is firmly secured in spring foot-rest c at c.

To remove either'of these beaters arf'only requires the 'springing down of the foot-rest c, so that the pivot-piu -will be drawn out heaters a a, when they, with the wheels D D', are removed from the upper pivot in feet A", by simply slipping them downward, when they are free from the machine.

Beaters a are strengthened by inserting, about midway of theirlength, the'bent brace e, whichis riveted fast to their sides at f f., i

The middle beater a is also strengthened by the brace a, and Vriveted to the sides of the beater, as. seen in iig. 1,1and the guide-shaft b passes through saidbrace e, which tends to hold .the middlebeater iirmiy in itsplace. f l

The spring foot-rest cis made fast to the bottom of shaft b at its vcenter c', audis of. 4such metal as will be elastic and spring, 'and yet be firm enough when inpits position to resist any strain brought upon it -whileothe beater is in operation, and has the pivotpins atc" made fast to itself, so that, as the'foot is sprung downward ateither end, the outside beaters can be removed.

Turn .gear-wheel B `by crank-handle B', which gives motion to wheels C and D, and, by gearing wheel D into wheels.' D D', they are revolved, ,and the beaters,.being attached to the yunder sides oi' the -gear-wheels D'D' D', revolve with them, and in the same direction; that is, the beaters o a`revolve iu the same direction, while middle beater a revolves in the opposite direction, which `causes the sides of the removable beaters a, a, as they approach each other in their revolutions ,to be'traveling' in contrary direcrection intermediate, that its. sides go in the opposite direction from the sides ot' beaters a a as they approach each other in theirrevolutions, and by which motion otftheV .three beaters thelsubstance .of the egg is brought in contact with the acting parts of the 'beaters to be thoroughly broken and beaten to the scribed.
