Description

G. HAMBLETON' BOBBIN.
APPLIG 'LTION FILED JUNE 19, 1912.
1,061,239. Patented May 6, 1913 UNITED STATES PATENT oF IoE. GEORGE fiAllfBIlFTON, OF GOFFSTOWN, NEW HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNO R TO U. S. BOBfiIN & SHUTTLE (10., OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLANJR, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HAMBLE'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gofi'stown, in the county of Hillsboro and State of New Hampshireyhave invented a 'new and useful Improvement in Bobbins, of
which the following is a specification.
- This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in'bobbins, and relates I0 more particularly to the construction of the metal ferrule at the base of the bobbin.
The object of the invention is to support the bobbin in spaced relation to and above the top of themetal bobbin holders now being used, to prevent the two metal surfaces, namely, the ase of the bobbin ferrule and the top of the metallic holder from contact ing'wlth each other, since such contact has frequently resulted in the cutting of the thread.
In the drawings: Figure l is a fragmentary side elevation. parts bein broken away attached to the bobbin headand having its and shown in section of the b0 bin equipped with the present invention and shown in use. Fig. 2 is a vertical'sectional view of the invention in detached posit-ion and Fig.
3 is a bottom plan View thereof.
The spindle 1 is provided with a metal bobbin holder 2 thathas a flat'to face 3. The bobbin holder illustrated is ike that disclosed in-U. S. Patent No. 860,933, issued on Jul 23, 1907, to T. J. Murdock. The obbin has a metal ferrule 5 attached to its head 6 the ferrule 5 being formed to 85 have a ring hke'base 7 that is provided with Specification of Letters Patent.
I Application filed June 19, 1912. Serial Ho. 704.497.
BOBBIN.
Patented M ay 6, if 3.
a plurality of, preferably three, teats orpro jection's, which in the present disclosureof the invention have been shown as being punched out from the bottom 7 of the ferrule 5 'to form conoi'dal-shaped teats the .apices of which seat on the top 3.
. From the above it will be seen th'atfth teats or projections 8 rest on the topf36f the bobbin ho1der2 and'thereby prevent contact ofxthe bottom of the ferrule 5151i h the top 3 of the bobbin holder 2. As here fore stated, oftentimes when the bobbijri s'; placed on a spinning machinev the two-metal surfaces 3 and 7 upon coming in contact out the thread, thereby requiring the attention of the attendant to start the thread onth bobbin for the purpose of spinning same thereonto. Having thus described my' invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: I
In combinationwith a bobbin, a ferrule base formed with a plurality of outwardly punched conoidal-shaped teats for engagement with the. to of the bobbin holder to space the ferrule ase'from said top.' Y
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. 4, H
GEORGE HAMBLETON.
