CEMENT TIE XNCLUDNG A RAIL-FASTENEEL noemer.
Be it known that l', PAUL limer, a citizen of the United States, residing at: Ne koosa, in the county oi Wood and State oi lViseonsin, have invented a new and useful Cement Tie Including a Rail-Fastener; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exaetdescription of the in- -ventiom such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to malte and use the same.' i
This invention relates to an improved cement rail tie, including means to rcccivc rail fastening means, to hold thc rail in place.
One of the most essential objects ot the invention is to provide an improved casting embedded in a cement tie not onl'v hold the cement together', but to receive rail tas* tening means, which means holds thc rail in place.
In practical fields, the minor details ol' construction of the tie, ma)v necessitatdulterations, to which the patentee is entitled` provided the alterations fall within the seopeot' what isclaimed.
The invention comprises further :features and combination ot' parts, as l1ereinat`terset forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
ln the drawings :--Figurc l is a vicw in perspective of the improved cement rail tie, showing a rail fastened thereto. Fig. :2 a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. Si is a transverse sectional view, Fig. et is a detail perspective view o't' the same being molded or cement tie.
i Referring more particularly to the drawings, l designates the rails, while 2 denotes the cement tie having embedded or molded therein a casting 3. .lhc casting I com'- rises at each end, a pair ot' tubular nicmgers 4,011 the interior of which cross pieces y5 are provided. These cross pieces or bars are providedwith threaded openingsl ti to receive the threaded bolts 7, which also pass through cap plates 8, which it within the upper ends of the tubular member. These cap plates are of a edges of the base upper surfacesof embedded in the of the' rait, so that the the cap plate are even with the upper. surfaces of the base ot the the heads 9 of the bolts may rail, whereby engage closely therewith.
Extending from one pair of tubular mear bers to the other pair is an integral connectshape to tit the opposite Specification of Letters Patent'. Application led February 18, 1531.3A
casting, prior to the l Patented May d, 191.3. serial no. Meloni.
inbgr tie bar l0. rlhe two pairs o tubular members are connected in this manner, so that they may be held spaced apart the required distance, while the cement body is beingr ast or formed about the casting. In practice, it has been `found that'owingr to the casting being enibedded on the interior ot' the cement, there is no chance of the, metal becoming hot and expanding and contracting owing to the Weather. 1n other words, the ccmcnt protects the metallicV casting against the rays of the sun. E: :h tubular member ot' cach pair is connected by a transversc bar l1. and projectingr from each end tubular member is an extension 12, while projecting .laterally of the tubular member are cxtcnsionsl.
lirom the foregoing it is to be ascertained that there has been devised a novel, simple and inexpcm-:ive construction of cement rail lic including rail fastening means, and one which has been found desirable and praelical. Al'n using this improved cement rail tie, thc cracked stones and the like of the road bcd (ill the lower ends ot' the tubular members, and in this manner the tubular members perform an additional function, namclv, lo prcvcnt the tie from slipping.
'lhe inventiml having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is :m
Al. l cement railway tic having a metallic frame embedded 'thereinI- said frame being composed of a pair of tubular members at cach end, each pair ot' tubular members being connected by integral rciiforcingtie bars`- each tubular member of each pair being intcrsected by a bar, one of each pai'r of tubular members` having an extension in alinemcnt with the tie, said tubular me bers having interior cross pieceshavmg olarnings` to receive fastening means for f-usha ving a .metallic said trame being of a pair oi tubular members at tie. said tubular members hav-V Mii.
