Description
mntdgmw @anni @with i TEEQDCRE H. EBAYER., CE NEnT HAVEN, CONNECTICUT,
" 4"Letters Patent No. 106,093, datedAugust 2, 1.870.
IMPRovEMENT IN cooks. l
The Schedule referred to inthese Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'itfmag/ concern Beit known that I, THEoDoRE H. THAYEE, of New Haren, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have inventedj anew and useful Improvement in Swinging-tube, Compression, Water, or
SteamgOocks; andI do` hereby declare that the folj lowing is afull andcxact description of the same,"ref p erencebeing o had ,to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure l is a sidewiewof my improvement. `11igure 2.i s a longitudinal section of the same, show ing the valve raised from its seat toallow the liquid to pass out through the stem, I My invention relates to an improvement in swinging-tube, compression, water, or steam-cocks.
`The valve is opened audclosed by lneans of a camf shaped groove in. the stock, operating upon apin or `friction-roll attached to the stem. i
The'aeco'mpanyi-ng drawing represents a swingingtube compressionbasinQcock.
- To enable others skilledn the art to make` and use my improvement, I will proceed to describe the cont struction and `operation ofthe same, reference beingv had to the accompanying drawing, in which- A` representsthe stock, which is connected with the water-pipe. p g o One end ot' this stock is turned to a shoulder, in
order to form a bearing for the valve-packing, whichy o is placed in the sleeve B'aud secured by means of a screw, so as to prevent its being removed by the openingand shutting of thecook. o
' In the turned portion of the stock A a groove, a, is
out, to receive another packing, so as .to prevent any `leakage between the sleeve and stock, as shown in fig. 2.
D is `the stem or' tube.
One end forms'a sleeve, which is made to it nicely over the turned portion' of the stock YA, and in the upper portion of this sleevethe valve-seat E is placed,
as shown in fig. 2.
F isa pin, held securely in the sleeve and operating iu the cau1-shaped groove O. A friction-roll may be substituted for this pin to save wear.
. -Wheu the tubestands, as shown in the drawing, straight out from or in a line with the stock, the pin F is in the upper portion of" the groove G, andthe valve is open.
'As the tube is turned in either direction, the incline in the said groove operates upon the pin F and draws it, together with the sleeve and. stock D, downward,
until the valve-seat E comes in contact with the stock A, when the dow is stopped.
The valve is arranged to close in turning the tube about a sixth ot' a revolution in either direction, butthis may be varied by making the incline at a greater or lesserangle. The advantage that my inventionhas over all other `Compression cccksis that the Atube swings in either direction, instead of being 'stationary over the basin.
Having thus fully described my invention,
,What vI claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, .isp In a swingingltnbe compression cock, the stem D, provided with valve-'seat E, sleeve B, and pin F, when combined with the stock A, having the groove C, all operated as described, for the purpose set forth.
Thisspccication signed and witnessed this 10th day of May, 1.870. Y 4
THEODORE H. THAYER.

SMITH S. G lLBERT, FRANK PREsCoTT.
