, The operation of the improved music leaf turner may be briefly stated as follows: Normally, the leaf turning arms 11 are held to the right with respect to Fig. 1, against the tension of the sprin s 13 by the escape- 5 I ment springs 15. Eac leaf turning arm is secured to one of the leaves of awbook y,
bymeans of the-spring closed apple jaws 12.' The cables 22 are of such ength as to hold the, plates 20 in their uppermost posi- 10 t-ions against the tension of t e escapement springs 15. To turn one. ofthe leaves of the 'booky, the plunger 25 is pressed downward by the foot against the tension of the I spring 27. During this movement-of the 05 plunger 25, the arm .29 moves down one of the plates 20. As soon as the foot is removed from the plunger 25, the same is -im mediately returned to its normal position by the spring 27, and the arm 29 is moved 1 0 outward by-means of the spring; 31 until stopped by the finger 30 engaging the next plate 20. The plates 20,.as they are moved downward, are yieldingly held in .this-position by means ofthe springs-45. -The im- .1157
proved device is now again in a position to turn the next leaf of the book y. To return the plates 20 to their normal positions, the plunger 41 is pressed downward bythe foot, thereby operating the latch 3 6,and releasing he 'the re-setting plate 32. As soon as the resetting late 32 is :released, the sprin 35 moves -t e same upward and carries t erewith any or allot the plates 20 which may I 'hav'e'been moved downward during the leaf 1 5 turning During the return movemoved .out o en gement with thestop shoulders '20; At e same time the plunger 11, is .moved downward, the connected wire same have been relea 'ments, a casing located at a distant point 'said rack, an escapement coiiperating with each ofsaid l'eaf turning devices, means for actuating said leaf turnin devices after the by said escapefrom said music rack, releasing devices, movably mounted in said casing, flexible connections betweensaid escapements and releasing devices, and common means operative successively on said releasing devices, to actuate said escapements, substantially as described.
