b a whom it may concern Be it known that I. \Vnmuw A. C. STEPHEN, citizen of the United States, residing at Reed, in the county of Greer and are intended to be used in stores and kitch ens, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a cabinet provided with a number of removable compartments in which various articles, such for instance as spices. coffee, or sugar or any other granu lar material, may be placed so that this article used in cooking will be convenient to reach.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the cabinet that the articles will be fed through a single spout. a disk valve being provided so that the desired article may be obtained and the remaining articles prevented from flowing out of the cabinet.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the cabinet. Fig. 3 is a section along the'line 3-3 in Fig. 2. Fig. 1 is a section along the line -1'1 in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a section along the line 55 in Fig. 2. Fig. (3 is a perspective view of one of the receptacles. Fig. 7 is a fragmentary'top plan view of. the discharge spout. Fig. 8 is a plan view of the valve plate.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that this invention comprises a supporting frame which forms the base of the cabinet and also forms the lower portion of the receptacles, the upper portion of the receptacles being removable so that if a very large cabinet is being constructed for use in a store, the base portion may be sepa'rated from the upper portion'of the receptacles thus making it more convenient to handle the cabinet when shipping the same or setting it up'in the store.
The base-comprises the side walls 10 which form the outer walls of the lower portions of the receptacles, the base being divided into the receptacles by means or" the partitions 11 which*ha ve their upper portions braced by means of the bars 12.. the outer walls 10 are sloping, thus causing the sugar or whatever is placed in the receptacle to have a tendency to move toward the bottom of the receptacle. A flooring 13 is mounted in the lower portion of the base between the flanges 14 carried by the side walls 10, the floor being provided with openings 15 so that the contents of the receptacles may pass out.
A bolt 16 is carried at the center of the flooring 13; and a bar 17 is mounted upon the bolt 16 and forms a bearing for the valve plate 18. This valve plate is provided with a slot 19 which passes in the track of the openings 15 so that when the plate 18 is rotated, the slot 19 will be brought into registry with the openings 15 thus permitting the contents of the receptacle with which the opening communicates, to pass out and into the discharge spout.
The discharge spout comprises a funnel shaped lower portion 20 which is secured to a plate 21 providedwith openings which register with openings 23 formed in the valve plate 18 so that securing bolts may be passed through the openings to connect the discharge spout with the valve plate. One edge portion of the discharge spout 20 is provided with a notch 23, and an extension 24 is carried by the dischargespout 20 and plate 21, andincloses the opened space which" would be formed underneath the discharge spout by the slot 19 if it were not for this extension, A gate 25 is mounted in the slot 26 and carries a pin 27 which extends downwardly and is adapted to be brought in contact with the plate 21 at the outer end of the slot 26, thus limiting the outward movement of the door. This door may be opened a sufficient distance in order to uncover a de* sired opening formed in the flooring 13, thus permitting the contents of a desired receptacle to pass through its opening 15,' through the alined slots 19 and 26 and into the spout 20, from whence it can pass out through the opening 28.
Hoppers which form the upper portion of the receptacles are mounted upon the'base and they are ,removably connected therewith by means of bolts, so that when desired, the hoppers may be removed, thus making it more convenient to move the cabinet from one place to another. In the illustrated form of cabinet, there has been provided six receptacles, and, therefore, there must be provided six hoppers, the hoppers when being connected together forming a cabinet which is hexagonal in cross sections. These hoppers are identical in construction and, therefore, a description of one of the hoppers will sufiice for them all. Substantially triangular frames 29 and 30 are provided at the upper and lower ends of each of the hoppers, the frames being connected by the side walls 31 and 32 and the front wall 33. The hopper is open at both ends so that the contents of the hopper may pass through the same, the frame 32 at the lower end of the hopper being provided with beveled upper faces so that the contents of the hopper'will not collect upon the upper edge of the frame. A window 34 is provided in the front wall 33 in order that the contents of the hopper may be ascertained without it being necessary to remove he cover 35. This cover 35 is provided with depending flanges 36 which fit into'the open u per end of the hopper and, also carry han les 37 so that the cover may easily be removed when it is desired to refill the hopper.
Strips 38 are carried by the front walls of the hoppers and have their lower ends formed into hooks 39 which fit beneath the ledge 40'at the upper end of the base. The hoppers fit within the ledge, and bolts 41 are passed through the hopper and ledge so that the hoppers will be secured in place.

A plate 43 connects the inner ends of the bars 12 and carries an eye 44 with which the inner end of a rod 45 is connected. This rod '45 extends to a point above the upper edges of the hoppers and carries a plate 46 which is secured to the hoppers by means of the bolts 47 a nut 48 being screwed upon the upper end of the rod 45 so that the rod will be placed under a tensionand the cabinet thus gre'atly strengthened.
When using this cabinet, the cabinet is suspended so that it may be rotated, the suspending means being connected with the cabinet by any desired manner. If desired, the suspending means may be connected with the hooks 42. The hoppers are filled with any easily running material, such. for instance as, sugar or spices or coffee or any other desired material, and "the cabinet is then in condition for use. If it is desired to obtain some of the contents of one of the hoppers, the disk valve 18, together with the discharge spout, is rotated so that the door 25 is beneath the desired hop er. The door is then drawn outwardly as ar as the pin 27 will pe mit, and the contents of the receptacle can then pass through the alined openings 15, 19, and 26, and intothe discharge spout 20 from whence it will pass out through the opening 28 into a suitable receptacle, such for instance 'as a box or paper sack. v
If it is desired to ship this cabinet away, the bolts 41, 48, and 49, canbe removed and the hopper can then be easily removed from the base, thus making it 'a great deal more convenient to handle the cabinet since the different portions of the cabinet may bedissembled. It should also be noted that if desired, the discharge spout and valve plate may be removed so that the cabinet may be thoroughly cleansed when desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A cabinet comprising a base, partitions mounted in said base and dividing said base into a plurality of receptacles, a flooring for said base provided with a plurality of openings communicating with said receptacles, a common discharge spout for all of said receptacles adapted to have its inlet brought into registry with a desired one of said receptacles whereby the contents of said receptacle will flow through an opening formed in said flooring and into'said discharge spout, and hoppers mounted upon said base above said receptacles.
2. A cabinet comprising a plurality of re-' ceptacles, a flooring for said rece tacles provided with a plurality of outlet openings formed in alinement with said receptacles, a valve plate rotated and mounted beneath said flooring and provided with a slot ada tedto be brought into registry with a esired one of said fl0oring,.a discharge spout secured to said valve plate and provided with an inlet opening registering with the slot formed in said Valve plate, and a door slidably mounted in the slot of said valve whereby passage of material from said'receptacles into said discharge spout may be controlled.
3. A cabinet comprising a base provided with a plurality of outlet openings in its lower portion, a discharge spout rotatably mounted beneath said base and having its inletopening adapted to be brought into registry with a selected one "of the openings formed in said base, partitions mounted in said base and dividing said base into a plurality of receptacles, avertical rod connected with said partitions at the center of'said base, openings mounted upon said base and.
removably connected therewith, a plate mounted upon the upper end of said rod and remoVablyFcQnnected with the" upper portions of said hop ers, and an adjustin nut mounted upon t e} up or end of sai rod whereby said rod will e placed under tension to brace said cabinet.
4.
