VALVE-OPERATING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 11, 1911. Serial No. 643,565.
Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and iuseful Improvements in Valve-Operating Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in valve operatingdevices of the class used in connection with flushing tanks, and the object thereof is to provide a device of simple construction in which the operation, for which it is intended, imay be effected by moving a handle either upward or downward. This object is accomplished by the construction illustrated in the ttccompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section and partly cut away, showing the operating mechanism inconnection with a flushing tank; andFig. 2 is a detailed View showing a plan of the oppositely disposed levers and supporting brackets.
Similar numerals of reference indicate correspondingparts in bothviews, and referring now to the same: 1 is a flushing tank, and 2 is a lining of metal within the tank.
3 is a valve that rests upon; a seat 4 within the tank and closes the discharge out-let 5. The out-let has in connection therewith an over-flow pipe 6 which extends up into the tank. The construction of. the out-let and over-flow pipe, the valve 3,. its stem 7 and guide 8, the valve lever 9 and link 10,
are of known construction and constitute the apparatus which the present. invention is intended to operate. The lever 9 is mounted upon a shaft 11 whichis supported in the upper part of the :tank :at its ends upon brackets 12, and it isthe intention that a downward pull upon the rear end113 of the lever will effect the liftingof the valve 3 to permit the. discharge from thetank through its outlet.
The invention comprises the two levers 14 and 15 which are oppositely disposed and respectively mounted upon corresponding: shafts 16, the latter being fixed in brackets 17 which are secured to the bottom of the tank 1.. The inner ends of the levers 14 and 1 15 are slotted as shown at 18 and lap one A 0011- 1 another so that the slots register. necting rod .19 is secured at its upper endto the rear end 13 of the lever 9, and at. its lower end has connection with each of the levers 14 and 15, its end extending through said slots. Beneath the levers 14 and 15 is mounted an operating lever 20, the shaft.
21 affording a fulcrum therefor. The outer. ends of the levers 14 and 15 are adaptedto be engaged and moved by the. lever, each having contact with the lever, one upon one other upon the opposite side thereof, the
other of the levers 14 and 15 will be acted upon so as to draw the connecting rod 19 downwardly and thereby actuate the valve lever.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a device of the class described, a valve mechanismlhaving a valve lever; a connect ingrod attached to the lever to actuatevthe same; two levers pivotally mounted and dis posed oppositely to one another, their ends lapping and. each having a slot therein adapted to receive the end of the connecting rod; and an operating lever having its fulcrum in a plane lying between the pivotal supports of. the oppositely disposed levers, and beingadapted to engage and actuate the said levers severally.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
