FERNANDO OSCAR JAQUES, JRL, OF. GRANSTON, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE:
CENTRAL TOOL COMPANY, OF lIEROVIDENCE; RHODE ISLAND, A CORPORATION IOFE M RHODE ISLAND.
To all whom ittmay concern:
Be it known that: 1,? FERNANDO OSCAR residing. at. Cranston, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Islanchhave 1nvented a new and useful Improvement in a Dental Swaging-Blocks, of which the followingis a specification: 1
TlllS invention has 1 reference to an innprovement 1n the art of dentistry and more particularly to an improvement; in; dental swaging blocks used in forming tooth crowns. In the use of 1 the dental system whlch 1n:-
cludessteel tooth forms as shown in;the 1 UnitedStates Patent No. 971274;, issued to me Sept. 27,1910, the gold shell is placed on the steel tooth form. and compressed on to the form, thereby forming a tooth crown having the size and shape of the tooth to be crowned. In practice I find that the best results and a more perfect tooth crown is obtained by driving the steel. tooth form with theshell intoa block formedof a yield-n ing material, such as; soft pine and so; co'nstructed that theblock has a denslty whlch gradually increases from the minimum at the top of the block to the maximum at the bottom of the block.
The object of my invention is to improve the construction of a dental swaging block whereby as the tooth form and shell is forced into the block the pressure of the block on the shell graduallyincreases thereby giving' the greatest pressure on the end portion of the shell to form :the crown where it is required more so than on the sldes,
A further objectlof my invention 1s to construct such a swaging block with a cen? tral 1nd1cat1ng mark so that the tooth form DENTAL swaeme-zsriocm Specification of Letters Patent.
tom of the block and details of construction, a as will; be more fully set forth hereinafter PatentediApr. 15, 1913. 1

Intthe drawings, 8 indicates my improved.
dental swagingblockwhich is formed pref- ;to bottom. of the block. Thebloek is constructed to have a erably of soft pine with the grain running lengthwise or from top flat top 9, tapered sides 10 andfa flat bottom 11. An indicating mark or gage 12 is formed I centrally in the top .9 and a radial indicating line 13is formed inthe top 9, as shown.
in Fig. 2.. The blockS is constructed pref-Y erably round in cross section but may be. square, as shown m Fig. 5.
which cuts out the block from the stocki is internally tapered and .hasthe sameformm and sizeas the completed block so that as i the block is being cut out it is gradually compressed from the top 9 toward the bot tom 11 and when the cut is completed and has its greatest densityat the bottom. 11 which density gradually diminishes from the maximum at the bottom 11 to the minimum at the top 9. When formed of pine The cutter a the block removed from the cutter theblock with the grain running from the top to the bottomlof thetblock, the grain of the wood a is compressed so as to have its greatestdensityyat the bottom 11 and the grain of the a quired depth. As the form and shell is driven into the block the shell is gradually compressed on to the tooth form thereby forming the tooth crown. By this construction of a dental; swagingblock the shelltis sh l sis req re in f m ng a t Qt wn agnnif orm pressure is given to the sides of; the shell and the pressure on the end and sides of the t, shell maybe increajsedlaszreeuired,'by driving the tooth form and shell- V V :and constructed to have a flattop, tapering,
