CATALOGUIN (i1-CHART Specification of Letters Patent.
Application 'tiled May 3, 19139. Serial No. 493,458.
To all whom z' may concern Be it known that l, RICHARD H. WnLLns, a citizen of the `United States, residing in the city of Kenosha, county of Kenosha, and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cataloguing-Charts, of which the following is a specification. s f
This invention relates to improvements in catalogiiing charts and has among its salient objects, to provide a chart or print representing a given-mechanism o r device,
the various parts or accessories of which areeach so associated with certain identifying 0r cataloguiiig data 'upon the printed face of the chart, that the user thereof can by simply glancing at any given part of the device obtain the desired identifying or cataloguing information; to provide a construction ofthe above character of which all of the identifying or cataloguing data for any given part of the device represented on the chart is compactly grouped together in an outline space whereby it may be 'more readily found; to provide in each of said outline spaces, data showing the various grades oi',
qualities of the associated part or accessory, and the eataloguing numerals, prices, etc., for veacli grade; to provide a chart which permits of considerable variation and arrangement in tlie-cliaracter of the'outline spaces in order to give an attractive and finished appearance to the chart as a whole,
and in general to provide an improved construction of the character referred to.
The invention consists i'n the matters hereiiiafter described andy more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure l represents a mo-l tor car equipped with various kinds of lamps or head lights, and each lamp asso` ciated with an outline space upon which printed certain ideiitiying or cataloguing datau Fig. 2 represents a page of the fatalogue giving cataloguing data regarding one of the accessoriesshown in Fig. l.
Referring to the drawing, l designates a whole a motor car equipped with various kinds of lamps or head lights, each of which is mounted in its normal position upon the car. Referring to these lamps 2 designates the head-lights mounted in front of the hood, 3 designates the side-dash lamps secured at the side of the car in the rear of the hood; ISithe search lights secured as usual directly in front of the steering wheel; 5
the tail lamps at there-ar of the car; 6 the' lamps; 7 the generator mounted in its usual position above the foot board of the car as shown. The'face of the chart is provided with a plurality of'outline spaces 8, 8, each of which is associated with one of the lamps by an arrow 9 and leading line 10, The generator T is similarly associated with an outline space 1]. provided with a siinilar arrow 12 and leading line 13. These out- line spaces 8 and 11 are each provided with a heading corresponding to the part of the car with, which they are associated. For eX- ample the outline space 8 associated with the lamps 2 has printed thereon the heading Headlights and the outline space associated with the lamps 5`is similarly provided with a head-ing Tail lamps. The remaining outline spaces are correspondingly pro,- vi ed with the proper heading as clearly shown in. the dra-wing. Upon each of these outline spaces is printed certain catalogir Patented Apr. e, 19113..
ing data. Referring to the outline space S associated with the side dash lamps we find thereon beside the heading 4the fo lowing@ 820 $3.75 page 31, andA also. QE
$5.50 age 36. The numerals $820 i and refer to the cataloguing numerals..` of two different grades or styles of side dash that the cataloguing or identifying data upon the face of the outlined space may be varied as desired.
In Fig. 2 is shown a page of the catalogue associated with the chart, which page gives cataloguing information regarding one of the accessories shown in the chart, as for example, the/,searclilight marked 4 on the hart. The other accessory shown in the chart will have similar cataloguing date on the proper page of the catalogue.
.From the foregoing'it will be seen that I secure the `objects of the'invention hereto fore statedin asimple andfefective manner. v lt is apparent that the chart may be eoiisiderably varied in style and manner of a rangement without departing fromthe spirit of the invention.
I claim as my invention:
The combination with a catalogue, of'a reference chart therefor, said chart compris- .litio llt? ingu picture of a main devine, adepdjqbe,
- equipped with various accessories, each of `which pertain functionally to a definite location on said main device, vrepresentations of sundry accessories res ect-Wely shown 1n said chart applied in their proper locations,
a grou of reference data printed on the chart o r each of the pictured accessories, each group` of reference data referring to the page of the catalogue on which Willvbe found a detailed description l of such accessory relating to prices, sizes and characteristic fea-l tures of such accesso-ry, and a tail line leading from each such group on the chart to its'corresponding pictured accessory Where-
