Original application filed April 7, 1900, Serial No. 11,993. Renewed August 9,
Divided and this application filed June 12, 1911.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, AvGUsT SCHNEELOCH,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Oneida, county of Madison, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in C0l1lll'0llll1g' Means for Paper;Fe ed ltollers, of which the following is a spocificatlon.
\My invention relates to the paper-feed rollers of a typewriting machine and consists in a new method for constructing the same and new means and arrangement of ,parts whereby they may be released.
This application is a division of my renewal application Ser. No. M6392 filed August 9th, 1919, originally filed April 7, 1900, Ser. No. 11,993.
My invention is fully shown in the drawing herewith, in which the reference numerals of the description indicate the corresponding parts in the figures.
Figure 1 is a partial plan view of the platen and paper feed rollers, constructed In accordance with my invention and Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view of thesame. In the drawing 139 is the platen and 153 is a shaft fixe'd to theplaten frame directly underneath the platen, upon which are journaled arms 154 carrying 155 one of the feedrollers, and arms 156 carrying 157, the other of said rollers. 158 is an ordinary, adjustable, door-check spring regulating the pressure of said rollers against said platen. Each of said-arms is provided with a projection ,159, and journaled on said platen frameie a rotatable bar 160, having cam surlfil operatively adjusted with each ,prbjections from said arms, so that, upon the rotation of the said bar 160 the cam surfaces 161 thereof will czperate upon the projections 159 frqmthe sai arms hearing the rollers and raise them from contact with the p aten Connected with said rotatable bar 168 is a handle 162, so-it'tiat the operator may release said rollers from t e platen at will.
Mv feed roller mechanism is convenient, effective and positive in operation and may be adjusted as described I do not limit myself to the mechanism as shown as may be varied in construction nd arrangementwithout departing from y invention.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8, 1913.- 1910, Serial No. 576,392. Serial No. 632,750.
Having described my invention, I claim, 1. The combination with the platen, of an operating shaft located adjacent thereto, pivoted arms extending "in opposite directions from their pivots, and provided with projections or tappets which embrace an irregular portion of the said shaft between them, and feed rollers carried by said arms.
. 2. The combination with the platen of an operating shaft located adjacent thereto, pivoted arms extending in opposite directions from their pivots and provided with members-engaged by irregular portions of the said shaft, feed rollers carried by said' arms and adjustable springs engaging said arms.
3. In a typewriting machine the device for throwing the paper feed rollers into and ont of engagement with the platen, comprisin a rod on the platen frame, arms journa .ed thereon bearing the paper feed rollers held in operative contact with the platen by springs of said rod, and a cam shaft journaled on said laten frame, the cams of which, as said s aft is turned, are adapted to work upon said arms so as to move the same against the action of said springs.
4. The combination with the platen, of a feed roller supporting shaft arranged adjacent thereto, supporting arms journaled on said shaft in pairs, the arms of each pair extending on opposite sides of the platen, feed rollers supported each in the arms extending on the same side, a spring pressing the feed rollers toward the platen, an operating bar having cam portions, and'portions of the arms arranged in engagement with said cam portions.
5. The combination with the platen, of a feed roller supporting shaft arranged adjacent thereto, supportmg arms journalod on said shaft in pairs, the arms of each pair extending on opposite sides of the platen, feed rollers supported each in the arms extending ating shaft arranged adjacent thereto and having irregular portions thereon, pivoted arms extending from their pivots toward the. platen and having opposed inner surfaces embracing the lrregular portions of said shaft, resilient means to press said arms toward the platen and feed rollers sup; ported on the ends of said arms.
7. In a typewriting machine, the combination with the platen, of a rotatable operating shaft arranged adjacent thereto and having irregular portions thereon pivoted arms extending from their pivots toward the platen and having surfaces engag'in the irregular portions of said shaft, resl iem ,15 means to press said arms toward the platen and feed rollers supported on the ends of said arms.
In testimony whereof I have signed my' name to this specification in the presence of 20 two subscribing witnesses.
