BENJAMIN B. HOGABOM, OF ELK' GRVE, CALIFORNB..
AUTOMATIC -CU"1-0]535' FCR PACKAGE-FILLING MACHINES.
Application filed December 1, 1910. Serial No. 595,149.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN B. Hoda- BooM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elk Grove, in the county of Sacramento, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements-in Automatic Cut-Gifs for -Package-Filling Machines; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exa-ct description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same, reference being 1iad to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of t-his application.
This invention relates to improvements in honey weighing devices, the object of the invention being to produce a. lling means lfor filling cans with honey, having a weighing means whereby when the can is full, the supply. will 'be automatically shut oit.
A. -further obj'ect of the invention is to produce a simpleand inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly ei'ect-ive for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplishby means of such structure and relative arrangement ot parts as will 'ully'appear by a perusal. of the following specification and claims.
In the ydrawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure I is a side eievation of the complete device. Fig. Il' is a vertical cross section of the'same. Fig. IH is a top plan view of the complete device. Fig. IV is a fragmentary view showing a modified form of strainer.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference' on the drawings, 1 designates 'the strainer tub having a dis charge comprising a valve 11`adapted to discharge into the packing receptacle 12 held ina support 13. The stem 1a of such valve 11 is provided with a lever 15 fulcrumed at 1G and having on its innerend a projecting lug 17 against which an arm- 18 normally rests when the valve is open and which holds' such valve'in its open p0- sition, such arm being ulcrumed at 19 and having an elbow; 20, such elbow having on its lower end an inwardly projecting shoulder 21.
The trame 13 is suspended in arms 22 having a cross memgber 2?; provided with an upwa projecting rod 2li connected with Specification of Letters Yatent;
Patented Apr. 8, 1913.
a lever 25 fulcrumed at A26 and provided with notches 27 adapted to receive and hold a weight 28. One of the arms 22 is in. direct alinement with the shoulder 21.
When a can of honey is being filled which weighs approXimately'siXty-two pounds, the
weight 28 is set at such a point on the lever 25 bymeans of the notches27 as to permit the support 13 to-mo've downward when' the can is full, and as such support 13 moves downward it causes the. arm 22 to strike the shoulder 21 which'operates the elbow 20 to move .the arm 18 on its pivotal point 19 and disengages it from the lug 17, Where` upon a spring 29 pulling on the lever 15 closes thefrvalve l1, thus automatically shutting ofi the. supply of honey. Then when a new can 'sie placed and ready to be filled Athe valve is opened by means of a lever 15 and set in such open position by means of the arm .18. being inserted under the lug 17 and thereupon the above described operation is repeated.
A spring 30 holds the elbow 11 and its corresponding parts in their normal operative position.
0f course, any size or weight of can 12 can be used by adjusting the Weight 28 as aforesaid. A
In 'order to give an alarm to the operator that the can is Vfilled and the valve closed, i provide an electric wire 32 connected with the lever 15 and having a source of electrical energy 33 `and connected also with a bell 34, there being another wire 3-5 connected from said bell back to a'contact point 3G normally spaced from the lever 15 when the valve is open, as shown in Fig. 1. Now, when the arm 18 is disengaged frOIILthe lug 7, and the spring 29 pulls-fthe'lever 15 to close the valve, flit al`sof;brings such lever 15 into Contact withuthe point 36, thereby closing the circuit through the described wires and electrical energy to the bell '34 causing said bell to sound an` alarm to notify the operator that the can is filled andthe `valve closed, and `thus give him an opportunity to.at once replace the lled canv with an empty can and to open the valve for further operation.
From the to1egoing"'description it will readily appear that I have produced an automatlc shut oit which will substantially JEuliil the objects ofthe invention as set forth herein. i
While this specification sets forth valve, e. sprint; p
