SEALING DEVICE FOR WRAPPERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8,1913.
Application filed August 28, 1912. Serial N10. 717,597.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J OHN E. LANG, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Washington, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sealing Devices for Wrappers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This is an improvement upon my Patent 1,029,377, granted June 11, 1912 on an improved sealing device for wrappers.
Besides having the same objects in view as disclosed in the above mentioned patent, the present invention aims to provide an adjustable device that permits of loaves of bread or other matter of various dimensions being sealed in the device.
The invention further aims to provide a device of the above type with an adjustable burner for heating one of the wallsof the heating table of the device.
The invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, and Fig. 3 is an end view of a portion of the device.
Further describing my invention in detail with reference -to the drawing wherein like numerals denote corresponding parts throughout; 1 denotes inverted U-shaped frames constituting supports for heating and cooling tables. Secured to the supports by screws 2, nuts 3 or other fastening means are longitudinal parallel bars 4: and connected to said bars by screws 5, nuts 6 or other fastening means are the ends of hangs ers 7 that have the opposite ends thereof mounted upon the screws 2. The screws 5 extend through the outer ends of angle plates 8 and 9, the former being made of solid sheet metal and having a side wall 10, while the latter is foraminous and preferably made of woven wire. The angle plate 9 has a side wall 11 longitudinally alining with the wall 10, the said wall 10 overlapping the inner end of the wall 11 with the upper edge-of the wall 11 bent over the upper edge of the wall 10, as. at 12.- The inner ends of the angle plates 8 and 9 are secured to the longitudinal bars 4 by screws and nuts 13 or other fastening means.
Slidably mounted upon the hangers 7, be-
tween the supports 1 and the screws 5 are adjustable frames 14, each frame having an end thereof bent to extend over the horizontal portion of each angle plate, as indicated at 15 and then bent upwardly and connected, as at 16 to a longitudinal bar 17 carried by'the lower edges of adjustable walls 18 and 19, arranged in parallelism with the stationary walls 10 and 11 of the angle plates 8 and 9. The upper edge of the wall 19 is bent to engage the upper edge of the wall 18, as at 20.
The outer ends of the walls 10 and 18 are bent outwardly, as at 21 whereby the wrapped article to be sealed can be easily placed upon the heating table formed by the angle plate 8 and the adjustable wall 18.
The bars 4 are provided with straps 22 for a burner 23 in the form of a perforated pipe. One end of the burner has an air mixer 24 and a connection 25 while the opposite end thereof is provided with elbows and connections 26 for a branch burner 27 that has a perforated head 28 for the escape of gas, whereby the flame of said head will be in proximity to the wall 18 for heating purposes.
By adjusting the frames 14 the walls 18 and 19 can be simultaneously shifted relatively to the walls 10 and 11, whereby wrapped articles of various dimensions can be shifted over the angle plate 8, constituting the heating table onto the angle plate 9 constituting the cooling table. After the frames 1 1 have been adjusted and it is desired to make the same permanent, it is only necessary to tighten the nuts 6. The burner 23 supplies sufficient heat to the angle plate 8 and the wall 18 for heating the same, and with said angle plate and the wall 18 made of copper or a good conducting material, the heating of a wrapper can be expeditiously performed. With'the cooling table made of interwoven wire or a foraminous body, air can freely circulate through the same and cool a wrapper after the same has been sealed.
In view of the disclosure in my prior patheating and cooling tables.
