Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that,I, J osnrn A. MOREN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand River, in the county of Decatur-and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Sanitary Hog-Trough; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invent-ion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which.
it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful sanitary hog trough.-
As one of the objects. of the invention, it is the aim to construct a hog trough, that may be built in a plank'fence, which incloses the animals. r
A further object is the provision of such a trough, so constructed that the same may be filled from the outside of the fence, and then moved on the inside thereof, so that the hogs in the stalls may feed therefrom.
A further object of the invention isv t provide means for, moving the trough.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed. In the drawings :Figure 1 is a View in perspective showing the improved hog trough, as built in a fence; Fig. 2 is a' sectional view transversely through the trough. Fig. 8 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the U- shaped member 21 including the nuts 23.
I Referring more specifically to the drawings 1 designates aportion of a fence, and another object of the invention is to "remove certain portions of the fence, such as sections ofthe planks, in order that the frame '2, in which the trough 3 is slidable trans-.
versely thereof, may be built. The frame 3 comprises the standards 4:, between which the roof 5 of the stalls '6 is arranged. The stalls 6 are formed-by the plurality of divisional boards or planks 7, which are-se- 745 cured to thereof in any suitable manner (not shown). Secured to the standards 4, and to the divisional boards are the strips or planks 8, which constitute means for steadying the divisional boards in position.
, The posts 4 are provided with extensions 9,
which are secured in the sockets '10 of the platform or base 11 of the structure, in order,
to assist in holding the osts 11 right. Se
fence, a platform from which the, osts rise,
cured to the base or plat 'orm a jacent each 5 end thereof is a rail 12 hav1ng shoulders 13 Application filed July 13, 1912. Serial No. 709,147.
' at each end. The ends of the trough 3 are provided with end strips 14, which extend considerably upon each side of the trough.- These end strips Mare grooved as shown at 15, so as to straddle the rails 12, there bein-grollers .16 mounted in the grooves so as to engage the rails, whereby the trough may be moved transversely of the frame easily. The rails 12 are offset alittle from the posts, so that the end pieces maybe free to inove without being obstructed. The trough 3 is limited in its movement in either direction, by the end pieces contacting with the shoulder 13.
Secured to the trough, and arranged intermediate the end pieces are strips 17, .whlch engage the guide rails 18 secured upon the base or platform 11. Secured to the strips 1"? is a strip 19, to which the lever 20 is pivotally connected by the U-shaped7 member 21. This member 21 is provided with downwardly extending portions 22, which are secured to the strip 19 by the nuts 23. The lever 20 is provided with a roundheaded reduced extension 24, which is received in the socket 25 of the base or platform of the frame, thereby constituting means whereby the trough may be moved transversely of the fence.
On one side the fence at denotes the inside while Z) designates the outside. To feed the hogs on theinside the fence, the trough is moved to a posit i on shown in dotted lines .1n Fig. 2, by moving the lever in the direction, of the arrow 27. After the trough has been filled with the necessary feed, the lever is moved'in the direction 'of the arrow 28,
which in turn actuates the trough to a position in 'full lines, as shown in Fig. 2, where the hogs may obtain their food.
From the foregoing it is to be observed,
there has been devised a simple and eiliicient hog trough, of such a structure that the trough may be filled upon one side the fence,
and then moved on the inside thereof, where 0 .the contents thereof may be had'by the hogs,
and one which has been found desirableand practical.
The invehtion having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 1. In combination, a fence, a frame comprisingaplurality of stalls'and posts at the ends of the plurality of stalls built in the rails secured to the platform adJacentthe 'lle "posts and having shoulders at'their ends, an
and connected to the bar elongated trough having end pieces movable between the shoulders, the shoulders constituting means to limit the trough in its movement in either direction, the end pieces having groovesat their lower edges to straddle the rails and provided with rollers in the groove to engaget-he rails, guide rails secured to the platform intermediate the first rails, strips secured to the trough trans 'versely thereof, a bar secured to the strips,
the strips adapted to'engage the second ra ls to assist in guiding the trough, and a lever. havingv a socket fulcrumed to the platform for moving the trough.- 2. In combination, a fence, a frame comprising a plurality of stalls and posts at the, end of the plurality of stalls built in the fence, a platform from which the posts rise,
Copies of this patent may he obtained for rails secured .to the platform adjacent the posts'andhaving shoulders at their ends, an elongated trough having end pieces movable between the shoulders, the shoulders constituting means to limit the trough in its movement in either direction, the end pieces having roller bearings to engage the rails, abar secured on the rear of the trough and extending longitudinally. thereof, alever having a quickly detachable fulcrum connection with the platform, a U-shaped member connecting said bar and having a slot connection with said lever.
In testimony whereof I have signed my .name to this specification in the presence or two subscribingwitnesses;
' JOSEPH A. MOREN.
