Description

' Hmm JUL2613770v mwN-ron.
To vall whom it may concern:
SAMUEL c. FBINK, or mDIANAroLIs, INDIANA.'-
`13mm Panama; 105,666, dated Jury' 26, v1870.
'IMPROVEMENT m DEPURAToRs.
.l'he Schedule referred to in ,these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, SAMUEL. C. FMNK, of thel city of Indianapolis,` county of Marion and State of Indiana, have made new and useful Improvements in an Apparatus for the Treatment of Disease by Vacuum;
and I do herebyr declare the following to bea full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawing that accompanies and forms part of'th'ese specifications. t
- The object of my invention is to provide a more efficient apparatus or .depurator for the treatment of disease by vacuum, whereby the head and face can come under the same infiuence and treatment, and
withv equal success as other port-ions of the human.
system, and also, at the same time, the patient can sit, with ease, with the whole system inclosed, while the airis exhausted'l from the depurator, as'showu in fig. 1 of drawing, thereby making my invention ot' best benefit to allpersons suffering with disease of the head and face, hitherto unprovided for in this treat ment. l
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the depurator, embodying my improvements.
Figure 2 represents a side elevation of the 'depurator, with part or side of theupper half removed.
Figure 3 represents an elevation of the flap shield, broken away ou one side to show the flanges Y Y, and the position of the strap V on the glass.
Figure 4 represents the strap V.
I will now proceed to a more `full and explicit representation of my invention.
Fig. l represents a side elevation of the depurator,
in working order.
` Itis composed of parts or pieces, the base A, cover B, and the shield O.
The Ihase A and cover B are made of sheet metal, with proper frame-work of wood or iron, to stitfen it,
and are hinged together at x, so that the cover' B can' joint will be perfectly air-tight. Also, the shield G, made of glass, (or part glass and metal,) in vits proper i position, with the patient inside.
The shield C is secured on the top of `the receiver by eccentric hooks L L; also, showing the air-tube E I on Ihe top, and outside ofthe depurador; also, showing the pipe F, attached to the aii'itube'E, on the inside; and lthe mouth-piece I, inthe patients mouth,A thereby giving him free air from without, the same as though his face was entirely out. At the same time, his face, as well as body, is acted uponby the exhaustion of the`air by an air-pump, connected at the base and rear of the depurator, as shown at W. v
Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of the depurator,
broken away on one side ofthe cover B so as to show the flange O, over which the glass shield C isfitted; also, the rubber ring or gasket D D, surrounding the liange, at its base or union with the top of the depurator, so placed as to form a perfectly air-tight joint under the shield, when it is clamped down by means of the hook eccentrics L L, or any other suit-able device.
E represents the air-tube, passingl through the topv of thedepurator, with the rubber tubeF attached to the inside, and a glass, amber, metal, or Wood mouthv piece, I, attached to the other end of said rubber.
Fig. 3 shows thev glass shield C, made'w'ith a-ilauge around the lower edge, as shown at YY. This flange is to support the band V, with the lugs T T, opposite eachother, so Athat the shield may be clamped down perfect-ly tight by means ofxthe hoek ecceutries L L, or any other suitable device. i
Fig. 4 represents the band V, with the lugs TT in their proper' place.
l claiml 1. The shield C, to inclose the entire head and face of the patient, secured, air-tight, to the depurator, by means of hooks, packing, or equivalentdevice, as or for the purpose herenbeibre `set forth.
2. The combination, with the shield C, inclosing the entire head and face, of the inducting-tube to supply the patient with air, as and for the purpose hereiubefore set forth.
SAMUEL FRINK.
