JOSEPH KUBOSCH, 0F MILWAUKEE, 'WISCONSIN'.
PNEUMATIC. CLEANER.-
Application led December 22, 1909. Serial No. 534,450.
To alt whom t may concern l 13e it known that I, JOSEPH- KUBosoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Cleaners, of which the following is a specification. c
Myinvention relates to improvements in that class of pneumatic cleaners, which is used forcleaning carpets, furniture and thelike, and it pertains moreespecially, among other things, 1st,' to the device for removing the dust from the surface of the dust screen; 2nd, to the device for cleaning the mesh of the screen; 3rd, to the device for removing the accumulated dust from the lvacuum chamber, and 4th, to the device for commingling moisture with t-he air as it escapes fromVl the vacuum chamber, whereby such minute particles of dust as may pass throughthe screen with lthe air, will be thoroughly saturated and may be either discharged. into` a 'receptaclein 'the same apartment ,or con.
ducted from the building, whereby'the unsanitary effects of permitting the dry air andv dust to exhaust together as heretofore inthe dwelling, which vis being cleaned, is avoided. My invention is further explained by reference tol thei accompanying drawings, in whichi thereof. iii connect-ion with a rotary. air com'- pressor `of ordinary' construct-ion.: vvFig. 2
- represents-a similar View to thatshown lin Fig. v1 .in which 'the screen, which is' collap-y sible, is shown las partially compressedwas thel same appears. in vthe act 'of removing the dust from' the. mesh oft-he screen; Fig. .3 is a top view, and Fig. 4 is a transverse'section.
Like parts areidentified by Lthe saine reiterence "numerals throughout the""several views.-v y.
The vacuum, chamber comprises the cylindrical walls 11and 'heads 2and 3,'wh1ch headsI are connected together and. held -in .close contact with the. upper and'lower ends of the cylinder v1 by a plurality of'retaining rods 4. The rods are respectivelyprovided- .with nuts 5, which as they' arel turned down on thefrods,.rsei,ve yto bind the cylindercand.
anism. The `cylinder 1 -isfprovidedupon one lside with a hand .hole 6, having a removable .door u whereby ltl'ie-accumulated'A dust may from ltime to time be removed. The dust screen is hollow` andl comprises the collapsible iabric 8stationary head 9 and movable head v10. The fabric 8 is permanently connected at its upper end lower edges with theperiphery of said heads. The lower'head 9 ASpecification of Letters Patent: Patented Ian 1S, 1913.
is permanently clamped to the'periphery ofthe outlet duct 11, while the head 10 is'con- 'nected tothe rod 13.- The rod 13has slidable bearings in the head 2 and lis provided on its upper end with an operating'handle 14.1.,
whereby an upward and downward recipro# eating movement may be. com'i'nu'nicated 'throughsaid rod 13 to the upper head 10 of the screen` whereby'the fabric-oi",- the screen is collapsed and moved from the position shown 'in Fig. l to that shown'in Fig. 2,i when it is obvious thatby a/ succession of `quick rapid movements of the rod 13, such dust as may accumulate in the meshes and upon the surface ofthe. screen is'readily `shaken oli".
Forconvenience in shaking the screen, l vpreferably interpose a spiral springl between the upper head 2 and the nut 16, which nut 16 has threaded bearings near the upper lend ofthe rod, whereby whensaid rod. is
forced down and released, it will be thrown back by 4the recoil of .said spring. As a con- .venient means of operating the 'reciprocating rod, I preferably provide a lever 17, which.
lever is pivotally :connected with't'he upper 4- head 2 .of-the vacuum chamber bythe pivotal bolt 18, link 19 and pivotal bolt 20, whereby it is obvious that the y'operating rod'13 may :be readily reached and operated 'from one sideof the vacuum chamber.
A 2,1 is a screen wiper" which is connected withg'the operating rod 13l throughone'of the radial'arms v22. aii d vertical rods '23, whereby as therod '13 is revolved by the handle 141, said brush 21 Ycaused to pass 4overa-nd in Contact vwith the cylindricall walls of the .screemjand whereby such dust as may be accumulatedon the surface of the walls is scraped off andvcaused to drop tothe bottom of the vacuum chamber, while such dust. as may haveaccuinulated in the meshes of the screen is shaken therefrom bythe vertical reciprocating movements of the rodjl, as stated. 24, 24, are'scraping' blades, which arerpivotally connected with thel'ower ends ofthev rods 23 and serve to scrape'thebot-tom.- '25 of the vacuum. chamber, whereby. such dust-,as may have'accumulat'edinthe bottom* 1 of `such chamber, may be brought to the hand- .e Hom.
is duce which ie connected :it
es'elee leiter is moved ecr'ees lieysurfeee el e eerpet er other fabric io be cleaned.
The reeuum pump l2 is ef erdiuerycenn smeio, and :motion .is adapted to be commueieeted dieree e me'ire pewer not eliownj threuggli the 'belt fend pulley Q7 lle erdiueryreaurier,- whereby peri'zil veeuum formed Within the screen and vacuum. chamber. Thus ir `will 'beebv'ieus -ldewlieu "liere'cuum pump l2 is operaed, erwill be ilieeeb'y cruised te dow from the uerier of elle screen rhreugh the air eutlet duc?, 28, when it isorced from seid pump `preferably connect the efdiaue; duet 'eue ehrougli *die exhaust duct 29,' es hereineer expleined7 whereby air sind dust will (reused ener the suoi-ion lieed, not
