The illuminating chamber. is guided radially by rods f thereon sliding in holes in the carriage F, and the cari-inge is guided lengthwise byV lugs g thereon :slidingjin guides g on the longitudinale bers of the carrier frame G. The latter has end pieces g2 g3, the former pivotally supported on the inner end of the hollow adjusting shaft D and the latter 'pivoted by a pin g4 on the frame' standard c.
H, Figs. 3, 4- and 8, represents the beeksupport or restr for supporting' the cylinder under the pressure of the illuminntinoP chamber. The back support is arrange under' the (.fylinder opposite the illuminating chamber and. is shown as being movable to Ward and from the `cylinder on guides l on carriage 71, which is movable on longitudinzil guides lig on the mein frame vso that the brick support can be adjusted lengthwise of the cylinder With the illuminating chem ber to thus keep it always opposite thereto.
The illuminating chamber is moved toward and from the cylinder by suitable means, such, for imstande, as a screw 'e'. se cured to' the chamber and Workng'in the internally threaded hub of a bevel Wheel i" which is journeled on the Carriage F and is driven by a bevel Wheel 2 on e shaft I journaled on the carrier frame G and provided with o hand Wheel i for turning it. 'The bevel Wheel 2 is journziled in a bearing on the carriage F end splined on that it moves lengthwise with the carriage to permit the radial movement of the illuminating chamber in any position thereof. The beck support Il is :ilse moved toward and from the cylinder by suitable means, such, for instance, as o screw la connected by bevel Wheels ,li si to u shaft K which is joiirneled in the lower portion oi. the mein frame and is provided with n hand wheel k3 for turning it. The bevel wheel la is journaled in :1. bearing on and, eplinod on the shaft ll: so es to move lengthwise with the Carriage,
The following" mechanism is shown for swinging the carrier frame G to adjust the illuminating chamber eironmerentinlly of the sensitized cylinder: A worm wheel l1, Figs. 3, 4 and (l, is secured, to theend piece g2 of the carrier frame G concentric with the exis of the frame and. meshes Willi e worm Z, vFigs. 4 :1nd 6, on an inclined shaft Z wliieli is jonrneled on the standard o :ind is connected by bevel gears Z2 to e horizontzil'sheft Z3 also jonrnoled on the standard e. This shaft is connected by e chain wheel Z4, Fig., ll, :ind chain Z to the loose or driven member of an electrical clutch lll,
'ot the Way to facilitate the mountiinT y the driving member ot' which is secured to a drive shaft vm which can be driven by any means, for instance, by a power belt running on a pulley m. The clutch' M canV be of any suitable"construction in which the driven member is adapted `to turn with the driving member and drive the circumferential adjusting mechanism when the clutch is energized bytheI passage of an electric current through it, and to stop and arrest further movement of the adjusting mecha.-
nism when the clutch-operating current is' interrupted. Thefcarrier iframe G can be swung to a' osition in which the tace plat-e of the illuminating chamber stands approximately verticahas, shown by dotted lines in Fig. 8, and the cylinder support swung out en Cen.'
l V.tering and registering elf therunsparent gt-aneously by cross shaft n which is journaled on the"-carr1er rameG and is con nected by' bevel, vgears u2 to leich screw. One ot" thewscre'ivs( N', is provided at one end. With a chain"wheel connected by Aa chain n* and chain Wheel n, Figs. l and 5, to a shaft ne which is joi'unaled on the carrier frame and is connected by a chain Wheel n? and chain 'its to a chain Wheel n".
vThis Wlfieelfn,9 is jo-urnaled on the standard c concentrically with the pivot-al axis ot'l the carrier frame and is connected by a chain nl with the loose or dri'venn'iember of a second electrical clutch O, the driving,v
member of which is secured to the drive shaft m. This clutch operates similarly to the clutch M, through the described mechanism, to adjust the illuminating chamber on the carrier iframe lengthwise ot the cylinder.
rlhebaclt support His adjusted lengt-hwise kof the cylinder by a screw l). Figs. @l and 8, which is journaled on the lower portion of the main trame andl Worksl in a -threaded hole or nut'p in the calrlragfei-Zt.
This screw is co nected by bevel gear-sup to the lower en of a shaft p2 which is journaled on the main :trame and. is pro vided at its upper end with a bevel gear p" meshing with a bevel `gear p4 on the hollow shaft D. The bevel. gear 714, which, is con cent-ric with the axis of the carrier frame. meshes* with a bevel gear yf on uV shaft 79 which is j ournaled on. the carrier trame and is connected bevel-gears 79T with the cross shaft n.' The illuminating chamber andv back support are thus adjusted simultaneously and correspondingly by the rotation of the 'driven member of the -clutclr l). Mechanism of different construction could be employed for thus simultaneously adjusting the illuniinutingv chamber and buck support.
Each of the clutch driven mechanisms for adjustiine` the illuminating chamber circumfcren-t-ially and lengthwise is set in motion bythe actuation ot a suitable. switch to close the clutch circuit, and a micron'ieter controller. which is set by hand in accordance with the desired adjustment of the illumi.
nut-ing chamber, operates autoinatically when the illuminating chamber reaches this predetermined adjustment, to establish electrical connections for opening the clutch circuit to stop the'adjusting mechanism.
rI"he micrometercontroller shown for the circumferential adjusting mechanism is conresentsthe controller casing', which hus a glass front plate. Q. Q2 Q3 Q* represent four Wheels in'the casing journaled concern trically one wit-hin the other on an axle'or arbor q. The rims of 'these wheels ure located just in rear ot` the trout. plate 'of the casing where they caribe readily seen. The Wheels Q Q2 are provided on the trout faces with indexes or pointers q and Q?, respectively, which cope1ute`with a stationary graduated' scale f/5` which surrounds the wheel Q? and maybe formed onor secured to gthetront. plate. The wheels Q3 Q4 e, are also provided with indexes or pointers rf g* which cooperate with a stationary. gradu- .ated scale o6' surrounding the Wheel Q".
The scale (15- has equal divisions represen-ting inches (or other units of measure) which the illuminating' chamber travels circumferentially, while the other scale, o, has divisions indicating smull fractions of the units represented by the first. scale ([5.
