SCRAPINGr-MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1913.
Application filed May 1, 1912. Serial No. 694,438.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR SHORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ogden, Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scraping-l/Iachines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a machine designed especially for use in cleaning or scraping honeycomb boxes, but the invention is obviously capable of other uses.
Among the principal objects of the inven tion are to provide a simple and efficient rotary scraping tool for the purpose indicated; to make the tool double ended so that it can be used by two workmen at once; to provide removable blades and an improved perforated base for the blades; to provide guards for the tools; to make these guards adjustable; and to provide means for locking the guards in adjusted position.
I will now describe an exemplifying structure embodying the invention, as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a "iew partly in front elevation and partly in section, and Fig. 2 is an end elevation with parts broken away to more clearly show the construction.
Reference character 1 designates a base or standard supporting bearings 2 in which shaft 3 is mounted. Between the bearings the shaft carries a drive pulley 1. A cutter or scraper is mounted at each end of the shaft, and since these may be identical only one will be described.
5 designates a hub keyed to the shaft and G the removable cutter plate secured to the hub by screws 7. The plate is provided with perforations or slots 8 between the blades. 9 are the removable blades each consisting of a base 10 and flange or blade proper 11, the back of which is beveled away as at 12 in Fig. 1 to form a keen scraping edge. Each blade is secured to the plate by a suitable number of screws 12 Adjacent to each of the scrapers isa guard comprising a web 20, a cylindrical flange 21 and an inturned lip 22. At one side the flange and lip are broken away forming a discharge opening 23.
The guard is mounted for rotary adjustment as follows: The bearing is provided with a flange 30 and to this is bolted a ring 31. Between the rings are disks 32 of felt or other suitable material and the inner edge of the web 20 is secured between these disks. In this way dust and trash are prevented from getting to the bearings and to the drive pulley. The edge flange 30 is provided with a suitable plurality of notches 10 and each guard carries a spring-pressed bolt 41, the lower end of which is adapted to engage the notches. Springs 42 engaging between pins 13 on the bolts and ears d4 on the guards serve to move the bolts to engaged position. The upper end of each bolt is bent at right angles to form a handle 45.
The guards may be angularly adjusted in an obvious manner by releasing the bolts 41.
In operation, the honey boxes are pressed against the revolving knives and are freed and presentable for shipment and sale. The trash flies outwardly into the guards some of it passing into slots 8 and then drops out through openings 23 into any suitable receptacles.
I claim:
1. In a scraping machine, the combination of a stationary bearing, a shaft therein, a scraper disk on the end of the shaft, scraper blades carried by the disk and having radially straight cutting edges, a guard open at the front and surrounding said disk and having a substantially solid web behind the disk, and means carried by said bearing for adjustably securing the web of said guard.
2. In a scraping machine, the combination of a stationary bearing, a shaft therein, a scraper disk on the end of the shaft, said disk being provided with a plurality of scraper blades, flanges carried by the bearing, a guard surrounding the edge of said disk and having a web secured between said flanges, and means coacting with the guard and said bearing for securing the guard in angularly adjusted position.
3. In a scraping machine, the combination from waX and propolis and are made clean of a shaft, 2:, bearing therefor, a scraper gaging the notches to hold the guard in adplate secured to the shaft and provided with justed position. slots, blades removably secured to a plate between the slots, a guard secured between ARTHUR SHORE 5 the flanges carried by the bearing, one of WVitnesses:
said flanges being notched and a spring- GEO. E. BROWNING,
pressed bolt carried by the guard and en- 1 MATTHEW GALT.
