trough B, and said bottom is offset upwardly. as at 14, centrally between the sides f of. the trough. and the offset portion lll of said bottom extends longitudinally of the trough between lthe adjacent end flange and a point spaced inwardly from the' adjacent side platei Said odset portion.y 14 of' said vio ` at its inner extremity.
bottom connects with the upper end of the fiar-ige at the outer side of' the flange, which -overlap the hump is therefore arranged centrally between and spaced from the sides of' the troughVand projects above the side flanges 10 and above the adjacent end flange b. rlhe offset Aportions 13 and 14 of each end-portion of the carline materially strengthen said end-portions, and the offset portion 13 of each end flange b and the adjacent end of the adjacent offset portion 14 of the bottom of the trough constitute ,an eflicient baille which prevents the passage ofwater from the outer side of a roofing-sheet (not sli-own) applied so as to overlap said flange at one side of said offset portion of' said flange to the inner side of a roofing-sheet (not shown) applied so as to overlap the outer side of said liange at the opposite side of said odset portion of said flange, and it will be observed also that the hump formed by adjacent offset portions 13 and 14 has formed thereon, above said flange, a rounded seat 1G fora roofing-cap (not shown) to be employed in connection with said roof.
ing-sheets. The sides of' each end-portion of the trough where said end-portion extends through a side plate A diverge toward the adjacent end fiange to accommodate the provision of the adjacent offset portion 14 of the bottom of' the trough and yet have enough Water-conducting capacity in said end-portion, and not unimportant is the gradual decrease in width of each offset porltion 14 of the bottom of the trough 'toward its'inner extremity and the gradual decrease in height of said offset portion toward said extremity so as to prevent as little obstruction as possible to the passage of water to the adjacent end of the trough.'
Each side flange 10 has its portions which top of the side plates offset downwardly, as at 17, at the sides of the trough, and each oflset portion 17 forms a pocket having a horizontally arranged bottom 18 which forms a seat for the head e of a vertically arranged bolt whose shank E extends through said offset portion and through and below the adjacent side plate, and a nut G is screwed onto the said shank at the bottom of said side plate. proved carline is therefore shown secured to the side plates by suitably applied bolts and l nuts. lVe woulr remark however that each end-portion of the carline is also preferably secured to the adjacent side plate by a horizontally arranged bolt (not shown) and to this end the offset portion 1:3 of 'each end flange Z) is provided below the bottom of the trough with a lateral bolt-hole Q0 which (me Fig. 3) is arranged in line endwise and consequently in registry with a bolt-hole 2l which is formed in and extends laterally through said side plate.
