This invention relates to ametallic tie and rail fastener, and the objects of my invention are toiprovide a tie of the ,I-beam' construction that can be used for supporting rails, and to furnish the top flanges of the tie with a novel fastener for preventing vertical and lateral displacement of a rail upon the tie, w'

'Further objects' of my invention are to provide a metallic-tie and rail fastener that eliminates the-use of splice-bars, clips, nuts and bolts, and to accomplish the above result by a'mechanical construction that is strong and durable, inexpensive to manu facture and highly eificient for the pur-' poses for which it is intended.
