SELECTIVE MECHANISM FOR AUTOMATIC VENDING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, EDUARD LISSAUER, subject of the German Emperor, residing at 167/168 Uhlandstrasse, Charlottenburg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Selective Mechanism for Automatic Vending Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a simplified form of construction of the subject matter of Patent No. 1,009,265, while maintaining the general arrangement of the selective automatic vending apparatus with piles of articles or picture cards clearly arranged in horizontal and vertical rows and adapted for selective purposes. It is also based on the same arrangement of the card delivery and holding mechanism, according to which the cards are ejected separately by being pushed away from the narrow side.
While according to Patent No. 1,009,265 a twofold operation of the card delivery device is necessary for selecting purposes in order to bring the said devicewith re spect to the horizontal rowinto the position for engagement by a rocking motion and to impart to the said devicewith respect to the vertical row-the effective downward movement, the present new form of construction dispenses with the means for the one preparatory movement (rocking of the card delivery devices into the position for engagement). The card delivery devices are actuated separately and selec tively by the mere downward sliding movement of sliding rods, whose number corresponds to the number of piles of cards. The engaging position of each card delivery device over the corresponding pile and which,
according to Patent 1,009,265, must be es tablished each time by a rocking motion extending over a horizontal row, is maintained at the outset in the new apparatus. The selection takes place by means of only one rocking shaft instead of the two shafts required by the construction accordin to Patent 1,009,265. Owing to this simp ification a plurality of parts is dispensed with.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example a selective card vending apparatus with seven pile spaces disposed in three rows.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the vending apparatus with cover plate removed .notches o o o therefrom and Fig. .2 is a side elevation of the vending apparatus.
j A sliding rod 1) is provided in the middle of and behind each pile of cards I II III VII. The card delivery device .5, which is bifurcated at s s is articulated with the sliding rod '0. Each pile of cards is held in a clip (1, 2, 3 7) formed of spring plates, so that the foremost card, against whose upper narrow edge the part 8 s bears ready for engagement, is ejected each time when the card delivery device moves downward. The sliding rods 0 have o situated side by side in a row. They are subjected to the action of a rail 11,, which is provided with fingers n n n n and is adapted to oscillate toward the sliding rods together with the hollow shaft 9 adapted to slide on the shaft 10. The lateral distances between the fingers n n n it relatively to the notches are so proportioned that for each adjust-ment, one finger can come in contact with the respective notch. The shaft 79 is connected in the known manner at one end with the coin freed device (not shown), whereby after the insertion of a coin, the shaft 29 is adapted to turn in the direction of the arrow. The hollow shaft 9, which must participate in such turning movement, is subjected to an axial displacement or adjustment through the medium of a chain is. This chain is in connection with the tube or the hollow shaft 9 and passes over roller 1" to a number-sector a (Fig. 2) which can be adjusted by a handle 2 and. whose adjustment is visible through a peep hole. By means of a spring f, the hollow shaft 9 tends to move to the left. As soon as the selective adjustment is made with these meanswith regard to pile 4 for example-the coin-freed device will be used and thereby the shaft 79 shifted. Consequently, the respective finger n acts againstthe op posite notch o and depresses the corresponding sliding rod against a spring provided above. In this manner, the card delivery device s, which engages over the clip 4 wit-h the edge of the front card, will be moved down, so that the card becomes separated and drops into the delivery .slot e. The described selective mechanism allows of a selection among the piles of cards in the same manner, the sliding rods '1: being provided with not more than one card delivery device each.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in What manner the same is to be performed I declare that What Iclaim and Wish to secure by Letters Patent is Automatic vendin apparatus, embodyingv Y therein a plurality means each adapted to releasably retain a stack or pile of cards, a plurality of yieldingly supported rods ad jacent said piles of cards and each of said rods having a notch formed near one of its ends, a revolubly mounted shaft extending transversely of said rods adjacent the notches in the latter, a sleeve slidable on Copies of this patent may be obtained for and revoluble with said shaft said sleeve having projections adapted to engage said notches, means for sliding said sleeve on said shaft to aline a projection carried thereby with a predetermined notclnmeans for revolving said shaft and sleeve whereby one of said rods is moved axially, and means carried by each of said rods whereby upon movement of the latter a card is released from a predetermined pile or stack.
