Description

E. H. RYON. LOOM SHUTTLE CHECK. APPLICATION TILED APR .25,1911.
Patented Feb. 11, 1913.
-z'enl of' the United States, residing at VValtham'; in tlie' cduntybf Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loom Shuttle- Checks,'of which the following is a specification;
My invention relates to a loom shuttle check, and the object of my invention is to provide a shuttle check of improved con struction, adapted to be combined with a stationary shuttle box ofordinary construction, and attached to and form'a part of the shuttle binder, to act, on the entrance of ashuttle into the shuttle box, to move inwardly theshuttle binder, and cause it to press harder against the shuttle, to hold it more'securely in position independently of the picker orpicker stick.
My improved shuttle check consists of a pivoted shuttle binder, having'an extension thereon beyond its pivot point, and a device,
.adjustably attached to said extension, and
a flexible strap attached at one end to said binder, and at the. other end to said adjustable device, and means to adjust and hold said adjustable device in its adjusted position. The flexible strap is preferably of leather, or other similar material, and extends upon the inner face of the binder, and forms a surface which engages the outer side of the shuttle as it enters the box, and is preferably secured at one end to the binder, and attached at its other end to the adjustable device, said strap extends beyond the pivot point of the binder, and for a portion of its length is free to yield independent of the binder, and as it is engaged by the beveled end and front side of the shuttle entering the box, it is pressed outwardly to conform to the shape of the shuttle onthe outside of the pivot point of the binder, and acts to move inwardly the free inner end of the binder, to cause it to be pressed against.
the shuttle to hold it more securely in position.
I have shown in the drawing a stationary shuttle box at one end of the lay,.an 'd some parts of a loom with my improvements in.
shuttle check combined therewith, suflicient to enable those skilled in the arttounderoom sEU'r'rLn-oHEoK.
Specification of Letters Patent.

of a loom, with a stationary shuttle box thereon, and my improvements in shuttle check combined therewith, looking inthe direction of arrow at, Fig. 2, and, Fig. 2 is a front view of the parts shown in Fig. 1, looking in the direction of arrow 1;, same figure.
In the accompanying drawing, 1 is the right hand end of the lay of a loom, having a stationary shuttle box or cell 2 thereon, for the shuttle .3, in the usual way.
4 is a rock shaft, journaled'at the front of the lay, 5 is a protector finger having its hub 5 fast on said shaft; the upper end of the finger 5 is adapted to bear against the outside of the inner free end of the shuttle binder 6. All of the above mentioned parts,
except the-shuttle binder 6, may be of th usual and well .known construction.
I will now describe my improvements. The shuttle binder 6 has a hub 6 pivotrrioa M It '.01 T,lOFIWALTHAM,MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO CROMPTON ILOOM- WORKS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS. mi: i .1 J1
ally mounted on a stud secured atthe front side of the shuttle box. The shuttle binder .6 has an extension 6 thereon beyond its pivot point. A flexible strap 8, preferably of leather, or other suitable material, extends from the inner face of the binder 6, and is attached at one end to said binder, in this instance by rivets 9. The other end of the flexible wrap 8 extends beyond the pivot point of the binder 6, to beengaged by the outer end of the shuttle 3, as it enters the box, and is in this instance secured by a bolt 12 to the device 11, in this instance made angle shaped; The device 11 is in thisiinstance adjustably attached by abolt 10, and nut 1Q, to the extension 6" on the binder 6. The bolt 10 extends through an elongated slot 1 1" in the device 11, as shown in Fig. 2, to allow of the device 11 being moved outwardly or inwardly relative to the extension 6. An adjusting-screw or bolt 13 in this instance turns in a threaded hole in the device 11, and bears at its inner end against the end of the projection 6" on the binder .6, and is adapted to move said device 11 inwvardly or outwardly, after the nut 10 on the bolt 10 is loosened, to tighten or slacken j the. strap 8, andregulate, as desired the tension of the strap 8, and the pressure of the binder 6 on the shuttle.
It will be understood that the details of construction of my improvements may be varied if desired.
Having thus described my inveiition,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters" Patents is:
1. In a loom shuttle check, a shuttle binder pivotally mounted between its ends, a device adjustably attached to one of said ends, and a flexible strap attached atone end to one end of said binder, and at its other end attached to said adjustable device, said strap,
between the pivot point of the binder and adjustably attached to one of said ends, and
a flexible strap attached atone end to one end of said binder, and at its other end to said device, said strap when engaged by the shuttle, intermediate the pivot point of the binder and said device forming a yielding surface to be pressed outwardl by the engagement of the shuttle therewlth on entering the shuttle box, and conformlng to the bevelshape of theshuttle, and causing the inward movement of the inner end of the binder and its pressing against the shuttle, to hold it in position.
3. In a 100m shuttle check, a shuttle binder 1 a flexible stra pivotally mounted between its ends, a device adjustably attached to one of said ends, and attached at one end to one end of said b1nder,'and at its other end to said device, said strap, when engaged by the shuttle, intermediate the pivot point of the binder and said device forming a yielding surface to be pressed outwardly by the engagement of the shuttle therewith on enter ing the shuttle box, and conforming to the bevel shape of the shuttle, and causing the inward movement of the inner end of the binder to yieldingly ress against the shuttle, independently o the picker stick, to hold it in position. 4. In a loom shuttle check, abinder pivotally mounted between its ends, a flexible strap attached at one end to one end of said binder, and 'adj'ustably connected at its other end to the other end of said binderfand means located on the binder and manually operated to adjust the tension of said strap, which strap is engaged directly by the shuttle as it enters the box, and conforms to the bevel shaped end of the shuttle, and causes the inward movement of the inner end of the binder and its pressing against the shuttle, to hold it in position.
