GEORGE VAN VEGHTEN, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
PUMP-VALVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 4,1913.
Application filed. December 2, 1911. Serial No. 663,514.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE VAN Vnorrrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pump-Valves, of which the following is a specification.
The general object of the invention is to increase the efficiency of pump valves by providing means, whereby, the valve as a whole is enabled to resist wear thereon, due to its slamming into seated position.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a detail vertical section taken through the valve and its seat. Fig. 2 is a detail plan of the valve.
The body 5 is of the usual composition material and is provided in its face with a centrally disposed circular depression 6 whose diameter is greater than the diameter for the opening of the stem 7, which opening 7 is concentric with the depression 6. The disk 8 may be of any suitable metal such as brass and conforms in area to the area of the face of the valve 5 and is centrally provided on one face thereof with an annular flange or bushing 9 which snugly receives the stem 10 and snugly fits within the depression 6. The provision of a metallic facing or lining for a composition valve body not only insures the face of the said valve body against early wear, but also materially aids in forming a tight joint when the valve is arranged in the seat 11. The provision of the flange or bushing 9 insures against leakage around the valve stem 10. The disk 8 may be secured to the body 5 by any suitable fastening means or may be retained thereon by the friction between the surfaces of the flange or bushing 9 and the stem and wall of the depression 6.
Although I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that I am not to be limited to the specific structure and arrangement of parts since various changes may be made, within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantagesof the invention.
What I claim as new is:
A pump valve comprising a non-metallic body portion having a centrally located opening and provided with a depression or counter-sunk portion, said counter-sunk portion being formed in the bot-tom face thereof, concentric with and of greater diameter than said opening, and a flat metallic disk of the same diameter as the non-metallic body portion arranged over and in engage ment with the bottom face thereof and centrally provided on the upper face port-ion which engages with the bottom of said body portion with an integral upstanding thickened circular flange or bushing, said flange or bushing being provided with an open-v ing, of the same diameter as the opening of said body portion, the said disk having its opposite face smooth, the said flange or bushing being of a height and diameter equal to the depth and diameter of the said counter-sunk portion and being adapted to snugly fit with the sides and top walls of said counter-sunk portion, whereby holding the disk permanently secured to the body portion with its opening in alinement with the opening in said body portion andfurther assuring the flange to snugly surround the valve stem insuring against leakage around said stem.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE VAN VE CHTEN.
