Application filed December 1'2,
To ah 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that, we, ironwio limnnmfxr: und Furry. Fernse, subjects ot' the German niperor, Iand residing :it hlniuzerl-.uulstrasse @E5/Q27, Frankfort-on-the-li'luin. in tie German Empire, have invented certain new end useful improvements in Eiethods vfor Binding Uppers on the Lust. ot which the Vfollowing is a specilienion.
lAccording to our .invention the upper is the last. ritter-the string for binding the upper has heen preriousliT drawn through the stitches provided tor the purpose. Then the loof-ged. ends oli the string gire pulled out ot these stitches close to the. middle of the upper, :1pproxinistely at thewnist of the last. These loops are then passed troni the unders. te ot the upper to the top thereof. For this pur pose n lust muy he used, which hss r. here extending from the sole to the ridge or the span. rl`he loops are drown through this bore, preferably by means ot u sort. of hodltin resembling e. hairpin. so that they emerge et the mouth of ss'i bore und hang down over the upper. then prefer-ably twisted shout euch other and tightly pulled, whereby the edge ot the upper will he uniformly lipped all around over the lust, and well drown in at the waist. For preventing the strings 'from slaoltening when their loops are released, they are secured at the. ridge of' the span, t r which purpose :my l suitable Ineensr may he' ernployed.
For the subject matter of the presenty invention, the various operations required for carrying out said method are illustrated in the sc conipanying drawings.
TFigure lis a View from below showing the lest with the upper drawn over it, the string being passed through zig-zag stitches along the edge of the upper. Fig. 2 is n sidexview of and partly a longitudinal section through the lust hetnore'the string loops are secured. Fig. 3 iso View siinilnr to Figi 2, hut showinv the last.
The u ier a, is rovided with e. oull sti-ino n i l t. b, which 1s passed through :i row ot wl ipped or zig-zag stitches (Z, along the edge ot the The two loops areA Specification ef ,Letters Estant..

After this operation has been carried out, the plug ml is removed, und the loops thereby released. The lesty is then withdrawn from the upper. for which purpose it made in two pieces, und the shoe een. he finished.
The hereinbeiore rf employed both for lasting leather uppers. and for lssting'uppers mode of soft mute rial, such as ure used for house or t-rmfeli slippers and the like.
