it l-Inou'n that I, los'srii lliou'ARo Hort-on, a citizen of thel, iited States, residing nt- Torrington, in the county of Litohfield and State of Connecticut. here invented certain new and useful linpreie ments in Carriages for \Virc-Die Holders; and I- do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descripti 1 the. invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it. app ti-tins to make and use the some, reference being had to the accompanying dmuin. and to the letters and figures of reterrnre marl e l thereon, which form a. part of this specular-- tion.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in anti-friction carriages for wire die holders for use in ci'innectiou with wire drawing apparatus and the. ohieut in View is to produru o si' ile elicieut.
apparatus of this nature which .1 ill prevent the wire lllflNlll drum from springir and appreciably reducing the friction upon the apparatus incident to tho drawing of the Wire.
Heretolore in the art to which this n vention pertains, it has been the (ZOllHDull prncticc to "fasten the (lie holder upon the table or bed .of the machine, there being no connection between the drum and said holder whereas in the present. invention it is my practice to remove the (lie holder from the table and place it upon :1 portion of on operating lever forming {in arbor and at tach the yoke or carriage carrying the anti; friction roller Wheels upon the lover, the Wheels of the carriage being adapted to r upon the drum and, when wire is drawn, the drum will have u r: lid bear thus preventing springing upon which the drum i mo" 1 My invention is pnnyiug (lrawin l 7 1 v 7 Figure l is a top plan View showing theapplicntion of my invention, the drum being shown in section. Fig. 2 1s a side elevation sectional View on line 3'3 of F 2.
Reference now being had to the etziils of the drawings by letter, A designates the table positioned a slight distance linden neath the wire Winding drum B which shouldered as at C and. mounted upon the shaft D, vertically disposed and. rotated in any suitable manner not shown. A carriage plate E a;
.the threaded circumference of said spindle.
comprising two semi zylindrical plates E .and E is provided, having bosses E upon the plate E and similar bosses E upon the plate 111. A spindle H has its upper end contracted and oircuinterentially threaded and fits in an aperture in the plate E. The lower end oi the spindle, which is contracted, p es through an aperture in the is engaged by e. nut F engaging An oil. duct is formed in said. spindle with. its lower or it opening through the cirourn feroneeof t1 spindle. which forms a hearing for the sntifrictiou u'l'icel G. The anti-friction Wheels whirl: arc inomitetl upon the cnrri e are 'nfeferohly conve, and adnpn i, when in opcrntii 'c positioiii. to contact with the. circular outlined groove .Q, formed in the circumference of the drum near its in 1" end, shown in Fig. '2 of the drawing The late E", which forms the lower poi-thin the curl-in provided with le s it to each of which is pivotnlly mounted a c 1' Wheel R adapted to rest upoi'i the table and form a means for supporting he carriage in proper position.
A lever I is pi votnlly mounted upon a. bolt I carried by the boss J, the lever being held upon the bolt by means of a nut J Said lever is pivolnlly connected to the plates E and E through the medium of the pin M which passes through rcgistming apertures in the plates and which plates have,,pro-jmting from their inner faces about the apertures through which the pin M passes, bosses M. A spring L is I cued at one curl to the boss and other end hears yiolilingly against. a pin L upon the lover I, the ofiioe of which spring is to norn'uilly throw the onrriuge away from or out of eontuo; with the. drum. to zillow the coil of un'c to full. to the tuhle utter it has been drm'rn.
In iperaliozn the parts fire prcieruhly adjusted as shown in the drawings null, as the Wire Winds about the lower portion of the tlruin and s drawn through the die. the Qtirriugo hearing l'rictionally against. the drum will tend to reinforce the same :iqizinst the. heavy strain and relieve the V upon which the drum mounted, preventing iihe same from springing. The die'holder ln1ving a loosely mounted in ction with the arbor portion of the lever the allowed to adjust. itself to the drum and, when a wire has been drawn and pressure relieved from the carriage, the spring will tend to throw the lever and the carriage which is connected thereto back from the drum and al low thewire to fall upon the table beneath.
What I claim to be new is 1. In combination with an anti-frietio11 carriage for die holders in Wire drawing machines, anti-friction Wheels carried there by and adapted to contactwiththe circumference of a drum, a movable lever for operating the carriage, and a die holder mounted upon said lever, as set forth.
2. In combination with an anti-friction carriage for die holders in wire machines, caster Wheels for supporting said carri ge a movable lever for operating the carria x and a die holder mounted upon sa d lever as set forth. a
3. In combination with carriage for die holders in wire drawing machines, said can riage being made u; of two curved plates spaced apart, antiinetion Wheels ifwlilltetl between the plates and adapted to bear the Wire drawing drum, a table, a lever pivoted thereto and having pivotal connection with'said carriage, and a die holder loosely mounted upon the lever, as set forth.
4. In combination With holders in Wire drawing riago being made up of two curved plates spaced apart, anti-friction wheels mounted a carriage for die bet een the plates and adapted to bearagainst the Wire drawing drum, a table, a springpressed lever mounted upon the lat. fer i l of the lever fonmin an arbor, and a tire hoider loosely mounted upon the iii-her, as set forth.
