To all whom, 1' i may concern Be it known that I, Clans W. citizen of the U nitcd States, and a. r of Brooklyn, in the State of New York, have invented a, new and usclul lmprm'ement. in Fountain-l.ens, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to what are styled self-filling fountain pens, and more particu larly to that kind of such pens in which an inwardly movable presser, extending lengthwise of the collapsible ink bag, and interposed l'letwecn it and the tubular handle-in which the ink bag is housed, can be reached and operated by hand tl'irougl'i an opening in the side of the handle.

The invention consists in attaching the presser for this purpose to a tubula r cylindrical carrier which snugly tits and rotatable within the handle, and is provided with a lateral opening through which the presscr is exposed, and with a head which protrudes through and beyond the rear end of the handle and serves as a means by which the carrier can be rotated either to bring the opening in it into register with the opening in the side of the handle. when it is desired to make use of the prey er, or to bring the imper'lt'orate portion of the carrier opposite to, and in a position to close, the opening in the side of the handle when the presser is not in use.

It is in the shape of a long, slim, thin finger which is secured at its rear to the carrier, and thence extends forward through and beyond the front end thereof, lengthwise of the ink bag. and between it and the interiorwall of the handle, in such position that when pressed inwardly it will flatten and compress the ink bag. The cap I in this instance made integral with the carrier, can be formed in any other suitable way. The presser E, which may also be secured to the carrier in any convenient way, in this instance, and with a. view to enhancing its resilient action, has its rear portion bent on itself in U shape, the short leg of the U being attached to the carrier as indicated in Figs. l and 2. The" opening 1/ in the carrier may be houndcd'on all sides by the tubular body oi the carrier, or the olid portion of the 'arrier in adranceol' it'cau be removed, as indicated by dotted lines at (1', Fig. 3, all that is needed being that there shall be such an opening in the carrier tube as shall properly expose the pressei'.

The manner of using the attaelnnent for filling purposes is obvious, and requires no explanation.
