Ba it known that l, JANos GERA,l a subject of the King ot' llliiigairy, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented certain ne vv and useful Improvements 1n Life-Saving- Suits, of which the followingis a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a life saving suit, 'and the primary object of myunvention is to provide garments to be easily and quickly placed upon the body to protect the same and maintain the body afloat.

Another object oi this invention is to provide a water-proof union suit that can be placed upon the body to exclude water, and a life saving device in connection with said suit for keeping the body aoat.

A further object of this invention is to provide lite saving garments that can be advantageously used when accidents occur to ocean going vessels, the garments protecting the body trom ice and floatingdebris and maintaining the body in such posit'ion that the hands can be used for navilio gating purposes.

A still further object of this invention is to provide garments of the above type that are simple in construction, durableand easy to install.

lVith the' above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel Aconstruction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.

Reference will now be had to the drawings wherein Figure lis a perspective view ofthe life saving garments as applied to a body. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the garments. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a union suit forming one of the arments.

Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view of a' drawing string case of the union suit. Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a life saving garment, and Fig. 6 is a perspective View of a hood.

Further describing my invention with reference 4to the drawings wherein like nu. merals denote corresponding parts throughout: l denotes a union suit having integral feet 2, long sleeves 3 and a wide neck band 4, said band having a draw string case 5 for a draw string 6. The front and rear sides of the suit have straps and the ends of the sleeves 3 are provided with strapsand buc- Specification of Letters Patent.

kles 8. The wide neck band 4 permits of the suit being slipped on the body and the draw string 6 is drawn and tied to form a nonleakable connection around the neck of the body. The straps of the sleeves 3 are then buckled to form a similar connection at the wrists.

lVith the union suit made of light and durable rubber or waterproof material the body is incased and protected from mois'- ture.

9 denotes a life saving garment in the form of a pair of trousers that has the lower ends of the legs 10 thereof provided with straps 11 and buckles 12 that constitute stirrups, the straps 11 extending under the fectand retaining the lower ends of the legs 10 at the feet..

l13 denotes a cylindrical casing stitched, or otherwise connected, as at 14 to the waist portion of the trousers 9 and located within said casing is a pneumatic tube 15 having a filling valve 16 to which an air supply hose 17 can-be connected for inflating the tube l5.

18 denotes buckles carried by the casing 13- and adapted to be connected to the straps 7.

19 denotes loops connected to the legs 10 of the trousers and tied or otherwise connectled to said loops, are straps 21 havipg branches 22 connected to the casing 13, at the front and rear sides thereof.

23 denotes straps and buckles at the knees of the trousers 4for binding the trousers on the limbs.

24 denotes hand straps connected to the casing 13, said straps permitting of the wearer of the suit bein lowered into the water, connecting the suit to a raft or other support, and allowing of a number of persons ioating together by gripping the straps.

25 denotes a hood havlng a neck ortion 26 provided with fiaps 27 adapte to be buttoned or otherwise connected together, said hood preventing the forces of nature from injuring the head.

The pneumatic tube 15 is of' a sufficient size to provide a large area capable of maintaining the body upright in the water and as the hands are free it is possible for the wearer of the suit to manipulate paddles or use the hands to navigate.

the life saving belt. `With the belt attached to the limbs the belt cannot become accidentally displaced or the body shifted to a lposition other than Upright beneath the elt, it being possible however for'the wearer of ,the suit to bend the body above the belt and assume as comfortable position as possible.

The life saving garments can'be carried on a vessel for emergency purposes or used by life savers for rescuing bathers and ship- Wrecked persons.

While in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such variations and modifications as'fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
