EGG-CASE FILLER.

Be itknmvn that I, FRANK F. BRADSHAW. a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Topeka. in the count v of Shawee and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Case Fillers. of whieh the following is a speeifieation.

M invention relates to improvements in egg case fillers.

The objeet of my invention is to provide improved egg case fillers by which a maxi mum 'nnmber of eggs may be packed and safel shipped in an ordinary case.

A further object of my invention is to provide fillers with a minimum of weight and a maximum of capacity.

A further object of my invention is to provide a filler having holes punched for reeeiving eggs and. of a size such that the disks punched from the filler ma; serve as stoppers for milk hotlles, therehy effecting a saving of what would otherWise be waste material.

Other novel features of my invention are hereinafter fult v described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings illustrative of the.preferred form of my invention. Figure 1 is a plan view of one of the top and bottom fillers prior to its being folded. Fig. 2 is a plan view of one of the intermediate fillers prior to itsbeing folded. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of two of the intermediate and :1 portion of one of the bottom fillrs disposed as they are to be arranged in the packing case. Before being folded holes 5 are punched in the slieet and radial slits 6 are also punched in the sheet ar mnd the holes 5, thereby forming tongues 7 which are circularly arranged. The

tongues in the member 4 are then bent upi rwardlv, wlnle the tongues 7 of the member 3 are bent downwardly. The tongues 7 of the upper member 3 are disposed so that I when the slieet is folded they Will rest upon the. tongues 7 of the lower member 4, as is shown in Figs. 3. 6 and 7. The tongues 7 form seats Whicl1 argadapted to receive the ends of eggs, as shown in Fig. 6. When the filler is used as a bottom filler, the tongues support the lower ends of one set of eggs denoted by 8.

Eaeh intermediate filler comprises a flexible sheet. such as is shown in Fig. 2, said sheet being scored in two parallel lines 9 whereby the sheet may be folded to form upper and lower members 10 and 11 and an intermdiate vertical memher 12. The lower member 11 is provided with holes 13 disposed so as to receive the set of eggs 8. It is also provided With a plurality of seats disposed between and in staggered relation to the holes 13 for receiving the lower ends of another set of eggs 14. Said seats are preferably formed by cutting in the memher 11 tongues 15 Which are bent downwardly and rest upon the upper member of the filler next below, thereb v serving to support th mcmber 11. Slits 16 may also be forincd at opposite sides of the tongues 15 and supple mental tongues 17 bent downwardly at' op posite sides of said slits 10, which latter tongues assist in forming the seats for supporting the eggs 14. The uppcr member 10 is provided with holes 18 disposed .So as to recoin: the eggs 14. Said member is 'providdd with solid portions between the holes eggs 8.

In operating my invention, the bottom filler is first placed in the case 1, first having been folded as described. The first set of eggs 8 are then placed in the seats formed by the tongues 7. An intermediate filler is then folded and placed as shown in Fig. 6

18 which rest upon the upper ends of the within the case 1 with the vertical member 12 at the left and the eggs 8 disposed In the holes 13 of the lower member 11. The upper member 10 will now l'est upon the upper. ends of the eggs 8 and the tongues 15 Will rest upon the member 3 of the bottom filler. The eggs 14 are then placed in the holes 18 of the upper member 10 and in the seats formed by the toxigues 17 of the member 11. The next intermediate filler is then placed in the case,the vertical member 12 being disposed, however, at the right, as shown in Fig. 3. Thh0les 13 of the lower member 11 of the last inserted .intermediate filler will now receive the eggs 14 and.the tongues 15 of the member 11 Will rest upon the upper member 10 of the next lower intermediate filler. The upper member 10 of the last inserted filler will rest upon the upper ends of the eggs 14. The next higher row of eggs 8 are then inserted in the holes 18 of the member 10 of the last inserted filler, said eggs 8 restng on the tongues 17 of the lower member 11 of the last inserted filler. The third intermediate filler is the inserted and disposed in the same position as the first inserted intermediate filler. In like mannr the following intermediate fillers are ins erted fter which the top filler is inserted.

With my improved fillers many. more eggs may be packed in a given space than can be done With the ordinary fillers, and owing to the holes being pumfhed in the fillers,

they are much lighter than the ordinary solid fillers.

I do not limit my invention to the struc- :ture shown and described as many modifications, within the scope of the appended claims may be made without departing from the sp1 rit of my invention.

Havjng thus described my invention, what I daim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s

1. An egg case filler comprising a sheet of flexible material scored m two parallel lines whereby the sheet'may be folded to form horizontal upper and lower members and an intermediate vertical member, 'tiie' low.er member having upwardly extending tongues and the upper member having downwardly extending tongues adaptetL when the sheet is folded t0 rest upon the tongues of the lower member, said tongues in bo-th membersiorming seats adapted to receive and support the ends of eggs.

2. An egg case filler comprising a sheet of flexible material scored in two parallel lines whereby the sheet may be folded to form'hori2oxital upper and lower members and an intermediate vertical member, the lower member having a plurality of sets of circularly 2frranged upwardly extending tongues, and the upper member having a plurality of sets of downwardly extnd1ng circularly arranged tongues arranged to rest respectively upon the tongues of the other' member when the sheet is folded, the circularly arranged sets of tongues of the upper and lower members forming seats adapted to receive and support the ends of eggs.

3. An egg case filler four horizontal members disposed above the other, the intermediate members having holes disposed one above the other for receiving eggs, the 10W- est and the upper members having respectively seats for receiving the lower ends of said eggs, and s0lidportions for resting upon the upper ends of said eggs, said seats and solid portions being disposed concentrically with said holes, the upper and l0wer of said fou'members hwing each a set of holes for receivnganother set; of eggs, the upper of the intermediate members having seats disposed concentricafly With the holes of said uppei member for receiving the FRANK F.
