Description

` OBK HOLDE'. APPLIO ION FILED AP .1911.
1,049,803. Patent-,ed Jan. 7, 1913.
I To all whom z't may concern.'
OFFICE.
man r". nona, or Gosnnmgmnmmi. worm-HOLDER.
Beit known'that I, ALLEN P. BOYER, a citizen of the UnitedI States, .reslding at Goshen, Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Work-Holders, of which the following is a speolficatlon.
This invention relates to improvements 1n work holders, the saine being particularly adapted for seamstresses use.
The objects of the invention are to provide a simple and elicient device whlch can be readily attached to a table, stand or other support, and will very securely and effectively hold the work.
Objects pertaining to the` eiiclency and economy of the structure will deinltely appear. from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my inventlon by the devices and ,means described 1n the following specification.
The invention vis clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing,
. thisif'specification, in which,
Figure I is a det-ail perspective view of -m y improved device attached to a table, the table being shown in section. Fig. II is a sectional elevational view on a plane from front to rear through the outer casing, the
table being also in section, showing the disposition and arrangement of the parts. Fig. III is an enlarged detail cross-sectional v'iew on line 3-3 of Fig. II, showing the disposition of the covering material over the spring in the preferred construction.
In the drawing, the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines, and similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
To produce my improved structure, a spring bar 1, preferably a attened spring wire, is conformed to present -a base portion 2, which is adapted to fit upon the top of a table, vor stand, and is recurved upon itself' at 3 to form an engaging spring to engage the edge of the table 4. A part 3 is curved vdownward to serve as a hand hold to facilitate manipulation in attachingA or detaching the device. spring is curved upwardlyat 5 and forwardly and downwardly into an engaging Specification of Letters Patent.

loop at 6, provided with suitable nicksY or notches, at,7,'. and extends upwardly and outwardly forming a handle 8 for theopening of the engaging clamp port-ion 6 away from the base portion 2. Over this continuous springI 1, which is preferably -of even size from end to end, I draw a tubular casing 9 to form an effective covering for the to mar a table, or to injure the work that is engaged by the workholder, should it be of will be avoided. The work, as 10, is clamped in placeby raising the engaging portion 6, inserting 4the work and permit-ting the it will be. found to be held very securely and very effectively in place.
For many uses, it will not be found necessary to put the tubular casing 9 over the spring metal. It will be readily under-v stood that it is much to be preferred to make this structure of an integral spring, but the principle embodied can also be embodied in a structure made up of two or more pieces. As it does not involve invention to divide this device into two or more pieces, I have not deemed it necessary to illustrate such in detail. A
From my description it will be observed that modifications will readily be devisedby those skilled in the art.
,"I wish to claimv the specific device as I deem it very meritorious on account of its simplicity andI also desire to claim the invention broadly as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1.]A work holder comprising an integral fiat spring having a base portion 2, with a. table engaging hook member 3 provided with a downwardly-curved portion 3, an upwardly extending loop 5 curved downward and forwardly forming a curved work cla-mp portion 6, and curved upwardly and forwardly into a handle 8 forA manipulating said clamp at the front, the whole covered l by a tubular casing 9, as specified. 2. A work holder comprising an integral iat wire spring having a base portion 2,
