ADJUSTABLE GARMENT-PATTERN.

To all wit-omit may concern:

Be it known that we, GEORGE W. ROTI-IEN- BERGER and WILLIAM HAYDEN, bot-h citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Garment-Patterns, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to garment patterns which are made up of adjustably connected sections of sheet material whereby the outline of the pattern may be made to suit determined individual measurements; and it consists in forming and cooperatively connecting the sections so as to permit of their convenient and accurate arrangement for properly sizing and proportioning a certain portion of a garment, as fully set forth in connection with the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the subjoined claims.

Figure 1 of the drawing is a plan view of a pat-tern for the front portion of a coat, embodying our invention; the outlines of the several adjusted sections being slightly varied from the true blending lines as shown so as tomore clearly distinguish the outlines of the separate connected sections.

Fig. 2 shows certain features of the invention applied toa. pattern for the rear portion of a coat.

The central or main body section 1 of the pattern is adapted to have secured thereto the different supplementary sections whereby the outline of the pattern is made to correspond with the sizes and proportions of the individual to be fitted; the ad justable connection between said main sec tion and the supplementary outline sections being effected in well known manner by means of suitable set-screw devices each of which engages a hole on one section and a slotof required direct-ion in another section; and figured scales being provided in connection with said slotted portions to indicate the settings required for determined measurements.

The upper portion of the pattern as shown is arranged to outline the front shoulder, arm-hole, and gorge portions of a body garment, and the principal part thereof is a shoulder section 2 formed with a shoulder-point 2 a gorge-line 2 and a shoulder-line 2. This section 2 is indirectly attached to the body section 1 as in- Specification of Letters Patent.

dicated, by means of an intermediate connecting section 3; which latter is adjustable upon the body section in slots 3 slightly inclined from the vertical, while the section 2 is independently adjustable upon said. intermediate.connecting section 3 in lateral or horizontal slots 2, so that the shoulder-point 2 and the adjacent lines may be set as required. This intermediate connecting section 3 lies entirely within the outlines of the pattern and by means of the slots 3 and 2 provides for most important adjustments, and at the same time acts as a gage to read the tables and scales located near the slot 3 A portion 1 of the sleeve or arm-hole is formed as shown on the section 1, but the main portion thereof is formed by arm-hole sections 4, 5, and 6; the section 4 of which is pivoted at 4: to the body section 1 and the section 5 at 5 to said section 1, while the section 6 which serves both as an armhole and a shoulder-extension section, is adjustably connected to the section 5 in an inclined slot 5*, and also to the shoulder-point section 2 in an approximately right-angled slot 5", so that both the shoulder extension and arm-hole outline may be accurately set as required.

The extension of the gorge-line 2 of section 2, and the forming of the top portion of the front edge of the pattern, is provided for by a section 7 adjustably secured to section 2 in slightly inclined lateral slots 7; while the main front-edge portion of the pattern is formed by a vertical edge section 8, adjustably secured to the main section 1 in lateral slots 8. The main rear-edge portion of the pattern as shown, is formed by a side-extension section 9 similarly secured to the main section 1 in lateral slots 9, said section being adapted as indicated to form at its upper end 9 a continuation of the arm-hole outline.

The lower portion of the pattern is formed by depending sections particularly adapted as shown to outlining the skirt portion of a sack coat. These sections are adjustably connected in vertical slots to vary the length of the skirt; the front-edge skirt section 10, as indicated, being connected to the main front-edge section 8 in slot 10*; the rearedge skirt section 11 being connected to the main rear-edge section 9 in slot 11; and the

12 and 13 have their lower ends connected at 12 and may practically constitute a single section, but the front and rear sectionslO and 11 are adjustably connected in

lateral slots

10 and 11 respectively, to vary the front line and rear spring of the skirt as desired.

The scales provided in connection with the several slotted connections are figured so as to indicate the proper setting for corresponding measurements secured; and additional scales are provided on the pattern to facilitate the proper setting of the sect-ions to suit determined proportions, the reading of the latter being given by the adjusted position of the intermediate connecting section 3.

While the particular pattern illustrated as embodying our invention is specifically adapted for the front of a sack coat, it will be understood that the form of the several sections and their arrangement may be readily modified to adapt the pattern for other specific forms, as indicated for instance in Fig. 2, where parts corresponding essentially with

What we claim is 1- 1. A garment pattern made up of sections of sheet material, comprising a main body section, a shoulder-point section adjustably connected to said body section, and an armhole portion formed partly in said body section, and by separate arm-hole sections adjustably connected to each other and to said body and shoulder-point sections, separate side-extension section adjustable on said body section, substantially as set forth.

A garment pattern made up of sections of sheet material, comprising a main body section; a separate shoulder-point section adjustably connected to said body section and carrying a gorge section adjustably connected to one side thereof; a shoulder-extension tures, 1n the presence of two witnesses.

A garment pattern made up of sec tions of sheet material, comprising a main body section 1, an intermediate connecting section 3 secured to said body section lying at some distance Within the marginal lines of the pattern, and a shoulder-point section 2 secured to said connecting section 3; said connecting and shoulder-point sections being independently adjustable in approximately right-angled directions. 5. A garment pattern made up of sections of sheet material, comprising a main body section, a shoulder-point section adjustably connected to said body section by means of an intermediate independently adjustable connecting section 3 lying at some distance within the marginal lines of the pattern, and arm-hole sections adjustably connected to each other and to said body and shoulder point sections. 6. A garment pattern made up of sections of sheet material, comprising a main body section, a shoulder-point section adjustably connected to said body section by means of an intermediate independently adjustable connecting section 3, a laterally adjustable gorge section connected only toone side of said shoulder-point section, and a shoulderextension section adjustably connected to the other side of said shoulder-point section.

7. A garment pattern made up of sections upon said body section, and depending sections having their upper ends vertically and laterally adjustable upon said body isections respectively and their lower ends laterally adjustable upon each other.
