Serial No. 693,673.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. HYDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVinsted, county of Litchfield, State of Con- J ournaled in the framing 12 is an alarm set staff 11 carrying at its outer end beyond arm 12 which cooperates with an alarm dial the dial face 3 of the clock an indicator necticut, have invented certain new and on the dial face 3 in the usual manner. Rouseful Improvements in Alarm Mechanism, tatably and slidably mounted on the set of which the following is a full, clear, and staff 11 between the front wall 1 of the casexact description. ing and the front dial face 3 ofthe clock, This invention relates to alarm mechais a hub member 13 provided with a gear nism for clocks and is designed to combine 14 engaging with the clock hand gearing simplicity of structure with accuracy and and properly synchronized therewith. The reliability of operation. outer edge of this hub member 13 is pro Broadly stated the invention comprises a vicled with a cam edge 15 having a shoulder spring pressed latch adapted to be moved 15 formed thereon. Fixed to the set-staff from looking to unlocking position with ref- 11 at the outer or cam face of the hub 13 erence to the alarm mechanism of the clock, is a collar 16 having an arm 16 extending such movement being effected through time therefrom and adapted to engage with the controlled means. outer edge of hub 13. Between the rear face I have illustrated in the accompanying of the hub member 13 and the front wall 1 drawings a preferable embodiment of my of the casing, a yoke member 17 is slidably invention in connection with a well known mounted on the set-staff 11, its front face form of clock mechanism. bearing against the hub member 13 and its In the drawings :Figure 1 is a face view rear face being engaged by a coiled spring of an alarm clock equipped with the alarm 18 mounted on the set-staff 11 between the mechanism of my invention, parts being yoke 17 and the front wall 1. From this sleeve and arms, either one of these arms can be used extending downwardly therefrom is an arm for the alarm lock or the guide arm. 7 a forming an extension of the hammer stafi With the foregoing in mind, the operaand having its end positioned for cooperation of the device is as follows: The alarm tion with the lock mechanism forming the set-staff 11 is turned by hand to bring its subject-matter of my invention. The hamindicator 12 opposite the hour at which it is 1% mer staff is given the usual oscillatory videsired to operate the alarm mechanism, the brating movement by means of suitable arm 16 being parallel with and moving escapement mechanism 89 oscillating the with the indicator. The gear 14, being synspindle 5 and sleeve 6, and suitably driven chronously geared to the time mechanism, through a coiled spring 10. rotates and brings its shouldered portion 15 1 e time at which the indicator 12 has been set, the coiled spring 18 pressing the cam edge 15 against this arm as the hub is rota ted by the gear 14 and the yoke 17 with its arms 19 and 20 being pressed inwardly mechanism against movement.
shouldered portion 15 reaches the arm 16 of collar to lock the alarm iVhen the of the cam edge 16, the coiled spring 18 snaps the yoke 17 and hub mem ber 13 forwardly to bring the the cam edge 15 against the arm 1 low point of This withdraws the locking arm 19 from locking engagement with the arm 7 of the hammer whereupon the alarm operatlve and is free to to sound the alarm unt mechanism becomes operate the hammer il either the spring runs down or the continued rotation of gear 14- rides the arm 16* of the hub and forces against the tension of th thereby bring the latch up over the cam edge the latter inwardly e coiled spring 18 to arm 19 of yoke 17 into cooperative engagement with arm 7 of the alarm hammer.
lVhile I have described and illustrated my alarm mechanism in connectlon with a spe cific form of time cont alarm escapement and h sire to be understood as rolled actuator and ammer, I do not delimiting my invention to use with such specific structures but may, on the same the contrary,
to various structures modify and adapt within the spirit of my invention and of the appended claims.
hat I claim therefo cure by Letters Patent i re and desire to ses:
