The principal object of my invention is the annular flange 14 traveling in the cento effect a construction of rail and car that tral groove or'opening 17 controls the carwill enhance economy in the construction of against undue lateral movement. The 70 15 railways. And a further object of my tongues 23 by engaging the rail at 25, as vention is to provide a novel construction already explamed, will effectually revent of carwhereby the smooth runnin of the a rockinlgl movement of the same. What I claim as m invention and desire Fig. 2 is a plan view of a truck. Fig. 3 is. to secure by Letters atent is: so
5 an end view in elevation of the construction 1. A mono rail, comprising a car having shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a view in elevatrucks swivelly conecte thereto, a mono ra1l tion of the truck shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 having its tread divided by an intervening is a view partlyin section on line 5-5 of opening, said opening being enlarged belowthe web of said mono rail, wheels carried in 85 Fi 4. 3o fnthe accompanying drawin s a car 10 alinement by'said trucks said wheels carryhaving a superstructure of or inary coning said car on the surface of the divided structlon is shown mounted on trucks 11 tread of said rail and having each an annueach of which may be'provlded with springs lar flange dividin the treads thereof and of any well known type, said trucks having projecting into sai opening to maintain the 90 each a transversely arranged portion 11' wheels on the rail, a tongue carried by each (Figs. 2 and 4 swivelly engaged at 12 of said trucks and positioned in the open- (Fig, 2) below t e bed of the car, and having in the rail, an enlargement on the lower ing'wheels 13 journaled thereon and alined {end of said tongues corresponding with 'centrally relative'to the bed of the car. The said enlarged opening in the rail to engage 95 wheels 13 are each formed with an annular the shoulders of the latter by an endwise flange 14 projecting from the peripheral rocking movement of the car during transit face thereof so as to divide the tread 15 as of the same, and thereby minimize said shown in Figs. 2 and 4. A mono rail 16 rocking movement. 7
(Figs. 1 and 3) is formed witha central 2. A mono railway, comprising a car hav- 1 logitudinal opening 17 intervening the ing trucks swivelly connected thereto, a rail treads 18 of the rail, said opening) being having its tread divided longitudinally by enlarged as at 19, above the rail ass 20 an intervening opening and having a base (Fig. 3) by which the opposlte sides of integrally connecting each side of said rail, the rail are integrally connected. Openings said opening being enlarged below the web 1 or perforations 21 (Fig. 3) are provided of said rail, wheels carried in alinement by centrally in the base 20 of said rail which is said trucks, said wheels carrying said car suitablymounted on cro ssties 22. Tongues on the surface of the divided tread of said 23, having an enlarged part 24 (Figs. 1, rail and having each an annular flange 3 and 4), are inserted in the longitudinal dividing the treads thereof and rojecting 11 opening 17 and positioned so that the eninto said opening to maintain t e wheels larged part 24 occupies the enlarged openon the rail, a tongue carrled below said car by an intervening opening,
and positioned in said opening in the rail, an enlargement on the lower extremity of said tongue and occupving the enlarged opening in the rail for engaging the shoulders below the web of the latter by a rocking movement of the car in transit andthereby minimizing such movement, and drain outlets in the base of said rail for draining moisture from the rail.
3. A mono railway, comprising a mono rail having its tread divided longitudinally said opening having an enlargement to form shoulders on the webs of the rail, a car having trucks swivelly connected thereto, wheels carried in alinement by said trucks and operating on surface of the divided tread of said rails to carry the car, an annular flange projecting centrally from the. peripheral face of said wheels and occupying said opening in the rail, to prevent lateral movement of said wheels, and a centrally suspended tongue secured upon said truck and extending into the enlarged opening in the rail, said zongue being carried freely in said enlarged opening and adapted to engage said shoulders on the webs of the mono rail by the endwise movement of the car and thereby minimize said movement during the operation of the car.
