To all whom z't'may concern: I I I I Be it known that we, CHRISTIAN J. MIL LER and ALVIN MILLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Smithville, in the'county of Wayne and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit-Pulping Machines, of which the following is a specification; i

This invention relates to improvements in fruit and vegetable pulping machines, and

is especially designed and adapted for pul ing the var-ions kinds of'cooked fruits and vegetables in canning and preserving establishments for a production of'canned goods such as tomato pulp, tomato catsup, plums, prunes, and the like, and manufacture of apple butter in the production of pulp and the separation therefrom of seeds, skins, cores,'and the like. I

Theprimary object of the invention is to provide a generally improved power pulping machine of this class of simple, cheap, and efficient. construction, and having the parts conveniently arranged whereby the same may be readily inspected or cleaned or repaired. To this end the main frame is ,provided with a removable screen and a hinged frame and cover carrying the driving shaft and beaters, whereby said shaft and beaters may be swung backwith the hinged frame for inspection of the parts,

and the removal of the screen or sieve.

lVith the above-mentioned and other ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figurel, is a perspective view of the improved pulping machine in its normal or operative position. Fig. 2, a longitudinal cross sectional view, the hinged frame and attached parts being swung back to the open'position'for the removal of the removably mounted screen or sieve. Fig. 3, a perspective view of the screen or sieve removed. Fig. 4, an end view of the'driving shaft and revoluble beaters or agitator bars.

As a convenient means for mounting the power or driving shaft'6, and the revoluble beaters' or agitator bars 9, adapted to nornially revolve within and against the sieve A or screen 4', inthe pulping operation whereby the driving shaft and beaters may be swung upwardly for the convenient inspectionand cleaning of the screen orsieve or the removal of the latter, a hinged frame 10, is provided, said frame'being provided with a cover 11, and mounted on hinges 12,

The heaters 0r agitator bars 9, are inclined longitudinally (see Fig. 4) whereby to gradually work the material, such as seeds, skins, cores, and the like, toward the opposite or power end of the pulping machine similar to the action of a screw conveyer in the revolving movements of the heaters or agitators.

As a means for rendering the separating and pulping operation continuous the discharge end of the screen or sieve 4, is provided with a discharge opening 6 through which the separated material is adapted to pass, the size of said discharge opening 6 being adapted to be regulated or opened and closed by means of a slide 21.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood.

Having thus described an embodiment of the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is,

A pulping machine, comprising a main frame, an inclined discharge chute carried thereby and provided with a discharge mouth at one end thereof, a removable semicylindrical screen carried within said discharge chute and inclined toward and provided with a receiving opening at one end above one end of said chute and a discharge opening at the opposite end near the opposite end of said chute, a hopper leading to the receiving opening of said screen, and a driving shaft provided with heaters within said screen and inclined from said receiving opening to said discharge opening, said inclined heaters causing the material to travel against the inclination of said screen from said receiving opening up to said discharge opening.
