Be it known that I", WILLIAM 'L. GoonarAN, a'citizen of the United States, residmg at Coalmga, in the county of 'Fresno,

State .of California, have-invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gripping Means for Bench Pipe-Threaders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear,and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it 'apperta-ins to make and use the same, reference. being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part ofthis application. i

This invention relates to improvements in pipe threaders and particularly to bench pipe threaders of all descriptions, the object of the invention being to produce a gripping means fora pipe which will hold the same securely in the stock of the tool for the threading operation, which gripping means will automatically during the gripping operation force the pipe to an absolutely true centered position as is 'necessary to the successful operation of the tool. A further object of the invention is to .produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, 1

In applying my improved invention I first provide a tubular member or sleeve 3 mounted over which is another sleeve 4 provided on its edges with gears 5" and having an operating handle member 6 to be used for turning said sleeve 4.

From the foregoing'description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the object of the invention as set forth herein.

\Vhile this specification setsforth in detail the present and preferred construction of-the device, still in practice such devia-' tions from such detail may be resorted to as donot form a departure from the spirit of the invention.
