Thus it will be seen that my lock is for the purpose of retarding the upward movement of the lower window sash when desired and securing it in a certain desired position, thereby causing the sash to be burglar-proof and preventing all rattling of said sash due to wind.
A further ob ect of my invention is to enable the operator to conveniently operate said window look by means of a cord extending from the lock to the convenient reach of said operator.
A further object of my invention is to provide a lock that will effectively prevent the downward movement of the lower sash when placed in a desired raised position in the event there are no weights or means for holding up said lower sash, or in case it should break loose from its fastenings, or the downward movement of the upper sash when lowered to a desired posit-ion.

Referring more particularly to the drawings in which like numerals designate like parts throughout, my invention is described as follows: The lock is composed of a lock casing 1, which casing is divided into two sections 2 and 3. A recess 4 is provided in one of the sections, which recess receives a corresponding lug 5 formed integral with the inner face of the other section. Each of said sections is provided with a central perforation 6 therein, which perforations receive a screw 7 said screw extending through eccentric perforations in the cams 8 and 9. A metallic spring 10 is provided with a loop that encircles a screw 11, which screw extends through each of the sections of the lock casing and aids in binding the same together. One free end 12 of the spring engages a notch cut in the outer periphery of the cam 8 near the lever 13 thereof. The other free end 14 of the spring engages the cam 9, the outer end thereof being received bya notch 15 in the outer periphery of said cam adjacent the lever 16. Said spring is so arranged that the cam 8 and the cam 9 are held against the casing of the upper sash in such a manner that the lever 13 may be drawn outward to release said cam 8 from engagement with said sash while the lever 16 may be drawn inward to release the cam 9 from engagement with the casing of the upper sash. A cord is secured. to the extreme end of the lever 16, said cord being passed around the lever 13 as illustrated in Fig. 1. When said cord is pulled the result obtained will be that the lever 13 of the cam 8 will be pulled outward while the lever 10 of the cam 9 will be drawn inward, thus totally releasing the lock from engagement with the window sash, when the lower sash may be raised to a desired position or the upper sash lowered to a desired position or vice versa.
When it is desired to transform the lock into a safety lock the cord is released from engagement with the lever 13, allowing it to swing from lever 16 only, thereby causing the cams to look more firmly should one pull the cord thereby reversing the movement of said cam 9.
Although I have specifically described the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts of my invention, yet I do not confine myself to such specific construction, but reserve and may exercise the right to make such changes therein as do not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of cally perforated and forated arm 16, also hinged on said bolt, the free end 12, of said spring, resting in a notch in the periphery of said cam 8, the other end of said spring resting in a notch 15, in the periphery of said cam 9, a cord, one end secured in the free end of the lever 16, thence passing up and over the arm 13, of the cam 8, thence down to within easy reach of the operator, said cord adapted to be removed from over said lever 13.
