Be it known that I, GUs'rAv A. BADER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Rochester, in the county pf Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglass- Mountings, of which the following 1s a` specification This invention relates to eye-glass-mountingsof the type in which the nose-engaging guards or clamps are loosely connected with their supports, so that they may rock to accommodate their position to the inclination of the sides of the wearers nose.
The object of the invention' is to produce a simple, secure and effective construction for mounting the nose-clamps upon their supports or levers, with provision for the automatic rocking or adjusting movement above referred to, and to this end the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described, 'as it is defined in the succeeding claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figures 1, 2 and 3 are, respectively, a rear-elevation, a side-elevation, and a plan-view on an enlarged scale, of a portion of an eyeglass mounting embodying the present invention, in which the novel construction is applied to a pad or clamp comprising a portion only 0f the nose-guard; Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are similar views of a modified construction, in which the nose-clamp constitutes the entire guard or nose-engaging portion of the mounting; and Fig. 7 is a perspectlve view of the pivoted nose-pad, showing particularly the form of the stem and the fulcrums.
It is common to provide a nose-guard with a small pivotally-movable clamp or pad, forming the upper portion of the noseengaging member or guard, the lower portion of the gu ard being rigid. This construction is shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. The novelty of the present invention resides 1n the manner in which the pad or nose-clamp is'pivotally connected with the body of the nose-guard. The drawings show the rear extremity only support 10, upon which the body-portion 11 of the nose-guard is mounted in the usual manner.
The rocking pad or nose-clamp comprises a body or facing 12, which may be of celluloid or any other suitable material, and
of the nose-guard lever or which isfxed, by means of rivets 14, to a sheet-metal backing or support 13. At a point intermediate its ends the member 13 is doubled together so as to form a shank erstem, which is passed through an elongated opening 16 in the upper end 15 of the member 11. To retain this stem in the opening 16, its outer extremity is spread, as shown particularly in Fig. 1, so as to form an expanded head 17 which is Wider than the opening. The shank of stem-portion, however, fits loosely within the opening, so that it is free to rock to a suitable angle about either a horizontal or a vertical axis, thus permitting the nose-clamp to accommodate itself to the angle of the surface against which it is pressed. To facilitate the rocking adjustment just referred to, the member 13 is provided, at the base of the stem-portion, with fulcrums 18 to engage the end 15 ofthe guard-member 11. These fulcrums are produced by `leaving the base of the doubled portion of the member 14 of full width, thus formingl shoulders and presenting the thin edges of the sheet-metal to the surface of the guardmember 11 adjacent the ends of the opening 16. 1
The invention isequally applicable, as shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6, to a construction in which the entire nose-guard is arranged to rock upon the nose-guard lever or support. In this c ase the end 19 of the lever 10 is provided with an opening like the opening 16 above described, and the backing 20 of the nose-clamp is doubled and passed through this opening in the manner above described.
I am aware that it has been previously and to provide fulcrums in connection with this doubled-portion of the sheet-metal to facilitate the rocking-action of the noseclamp.

In an Aeyeglass mounting, the combination of a support provided with an elonated opening; and a nose-clamp comprising a sheet-metal member having an intermediate doubled portion forming a stem passin through said opening, and anexpande head on saiddoubled portion to prevent its withdrawal from the opening.

In an eyeglass-mounting, the combination of a support, provided with an elongated opening, and a nose-clamp; the noseclamp being provided with a stem projectgated opening; and a nose-clamp comprising a sheet-1neta1 member having an intermediate doubled portion, said portion being reduced in width above its base to form a stem, which passes through said opening in the support, and narrow shoulders which engage the support adjacent the ends of said opening and constitute ulcrums to facilitate the rocking action of the noseclamp.
