of Ohio, have invented a certain new and in Paper- Feeding Mechanism, of which 'the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. Y
The object oithis inventionis to provide a simple, elfectlve and accurately controlled paper feed device for printing mechanisms.
The invention is in the nature of animprovement on the feeding mechanism shown,
described and claimed in Patent- No. 846,992 of H. C. Gammeter, the present mechanism being broadly covered by that patent and also by Patent No. 812,735 of H. GGammeter. In Patent No. 846,992 referred to, there are a pair of feed rolls and mechanism engaging one end of one of them to-.move itinto or out of engagement with the other `to control the feed. This mechanism is satisfactory under normal conditions, but under conditions where the material fed is 4thicker at one side than the other, as, for
example, an envelop, the 'shiftable roller is liable to roll with sufficient unevenness to cause one edge of the paper to be gripped with greater force than the other, therebyl f causing uneven feed.
' The present. vention is designed to positively liftor lower both ends .of the roller together notwithstanding the fact that the actuating mechanism is at one end only. This enables an absolutely true and accurate4 feed.
The invention' is well adapted for a print-` ing device of the type embodied in the GamC meter multigraph, 'wherein there isa rotary drum adapted to carry parallel lines of indi'vidual'assembled type and a rotary im# pression platen coperating therewith.

rotary drum 13 on a shaft 14 journaled in the plates and having on its end a crank or other means 15 by which it may be rotated. This drum may be forme-d to carry any l printing surface, as, for example, individual type arranged in parallel lines, as is well understood, it being deemed unnecessary to show any particular means in the drawing. Within a recess inthe drum are shown rib-- bon spools 16 which are adapted to carry ends of the ribbon extending intermediately across the type on the drum. Beneath the drum and projecting upwardly through an opening 20 in the base plate is the impression platen 21 which isv gearedby gears 22 and 23, with'the drum. This much of Athe construction is a common one in Gammeter printing machines, it being understood that the paperto be printed is .fed between the printing drum and' the impression platen .and impressed by the form on the drum' through the ribbon.

7. The combination of a printing member vand an impression platen, a pair of coperat- .ing feed rollers, a yoke loosely connected with both ends o'f one feed roller, springs acting on said feed roller, a cam roller carried by said yoke, and a cam operating on said `cam roller.

The combination of a rotary printing drum, an impression platen, a pair of feed rollers, springs adjacent to each end of one of the feed rollers tending to move it into engagement with the other roller, mechanism extending parallel with the first-mentioned feed roller andv engaging both ends thereof, and means for operating said mechanism to separate the rollers.

The combination of a pair of feed'rollers, means for rotating one of them, a pair of pivotedarms in which the other roller is journaled near its ends, .springs acting on said arms tending to draw the rollers into engagement, a piv,oted yoke adapted to simultaneously move both ends of the roller, and means for operating the yoke.
