ha/5 Aazmysl will be -gravity held With its axisin an oblique position, corresponding to the actual inclination of the earths axis in respect to its orbit, and throughout the rotations of the stantly directed upon the globe 27 so as to produce the desired light and shadow elfect on the globe. The globe around the artificial sun. 'This rotation 'of the globe may be accomplished in various' Ways, but, as shown, is ac zomplished as follows: The crank arm 17 carries a gear su}?!- porting bracket 32, one arm of Which is shoWn as adjnstably secured to the said arm 17 by' a set screw 33. The brzicket 32 carries two parallel oblique counter shafts 34 and 35. The counter shaft 34 is provided with a spur pinion 36 that meshes with. the large non-rotary gear 8, and it is provided with a spur. gear 37 that ineshes with the small spur pinion 38 carried by the shait 35. The
shaft 35 at its upper end carries a driVing sheave 39. A driving belt 40 runs over the sheave 39 and over the relatiVely small sneave 29 of the globe spindle 28. This belt 40 is passed through the outer end portion of the crank arn 18, between the guide rollers 18 on said arm 18, and through the arm extension 19. Furthermore, the bracket 32 preferably carries a pointer fingr 4:1 that moves over the outer graduated portion et the dial 9 and coperates therewith t0 indicate the positions of the earth in its travel on its orblt. 'By outward radial adjust ments'of the brackets 32 in respect to the arm'17, the pinion 36 may be disengaged from the gear 8 so that when desired, the globe may be revolved in its orbit without rotation onits own axis. By adjustments of the arin extension 19 in respect to the arm 18, the driving belt 40 rhay be properly adjsted for its traveling action on the sheave 29 As is evident, only a slight friction will .be required to rotate the globe on its axis.
What I claim is.:
1. In a tellurian, the combination with an inclined shaft having an arm arranged to r tate in an inclined plane and provided at end with a perf0ratecl head, of a globe having a depending spiridle loosely mounted for wabbling pivotal movement in the said perforated arm liead, whereb said globe' through;its orbital movement will be held 27 rotated on its own axis 365 times for each revolution that it makes with its axis inclined approximately in a constant direction, and means foi*- rotating saidglobe on its axis under 'pivotal move ment of said s1ipporting arm.
2. In a tellurian, the combination with a suppoi*ting arm mounted to rotate in an inclined plane, of a globe having' a spindle loosely connected to said ami by a wabbling pivot joint, whereby the globe under its orv bital movement will be gravity held. With its axis inclined apprfoximatcly in a constant direction, a bering for the said supp0rting ,arm adjustable t0 vary the inclination of the plane in Which the said arm rotates, and means for rotating' said globe on its axis. under piv0tal inovement of the said..,sufi porting arm.
3. In a tellurialn, the cdmbihation with.an inclined shaft having an arm arranged to r0- tata in an inclihed plane and provided au its end with a perforated hed, Of'a globe having a depending spindle loosely mounted for wabbling pivotal movement in the said perforated arm head, whereby said globe through its orbital mo'vement will be held with its axis inclined approximtcly in la constant direction, means for rotating said globe on its axis undr pii otal inovement of said supporting arm, and.'a bearing for the said supportirig arm adjus'table to vaty the inclination of the plane in Which the said arm rotates.
-1. The combination with an orbital table haVin a graduated dial 'anda non-rotary gear, xecl in respect. thereto, of an inclined crank shaft journaled at the centerof said table and provided w ith a radial globe sup- Porting ami terminating in a perforated bearing head, a globe having a spindle loosely seated for a wabbling pivotal novement in the said. bearing head and gravity helcl through0ut its orbital move-- ment with its'axis approximately at a constant inclination, a sheave carried by the said rlobe spindle, a bearing bracket carried by sa1d crank shatt, a 'sheave carried by said bracket, gears and shafts' carried by said bracket and serving to drive said latter sheave from said non-rotary gear and. a belt running over the two' sheaves noted, substantially as described.
5. The combination with an orbital table having a graduated dial and a non-rotary ge'ar fixed in respect thereto, of an inclined crank shaft journaled at the center of said table and provided with a radial globe sup porting arm terminating in a perforated bearing head, .9; globe having a spindle loosely seated for a wabbling pivotal movement in the said bearing head and gravity held throughout its orbital movement with its axis approximately at a constant inclination, a sheave carried by the said globe spindle, a bearing bracket carried by said crank shaitt, a sheave carried by said bracket,
