Description

,To whom it may concern:
dead g iatea we Mine.
hBvRA M GAAR, or mcn'nonn, INDIANA,
\ t Letters Patent No. 104,571, dated Jame-21,1870.
IMPRO EMENT 11v GRAIN-SEPARATORS,
The sehedule referred to In these Letters Patent and making art of the same.
Be itknown. that l, ABRAM GAAR, of Richmdnd,
Wayne county, Indiana, have invented certain new and jusefulImprovements in Grain-Separators; and I; hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawings which accompany this specification, forming a part ofthe same,-and to the letters ofireference marked thereon.
The object of my invention consists in constructing .thelowerportion of the rear end of the case or hous-.
iug of grain-separators in detachable sections, so that they can be taken oft or put on at pleasure, by which two machines can conveniently be placed upon one ordinary platform car for transportation, while, as 'now constructed, a single machine cauvo'nly betransported on one car, thus reducing the bulk of the machine and also the cost of freightst Another advantage which I claim for my invention is h to be found inits affording a cheap andready means for attaching a straw-stacking. attachmentito an ordiilarily-constructed separator by the itCldllilOlIOf what is shown as as detachable. portion of my machine, thus affording a cheap, simple, and effective manner of providing machines already in use with a strawstacking apparatus, when required. i
To enable those skilled in the art to construct and operate my improvement, I will proceed to describethe same.
Figure 1- is a perspective view of the rear end of a separator frame, showing'the rear lower section of one side detached. t
Figure 2 is a ,view: of the section so detached. Iafig. 1- i A A A represent the framing of the rear end of a separator constructed in the ordiuarymanner, and
B B are the upper portions of .the casings or housings constituting the sides of the separator, which are rigidly attached to the framing. A short post, E, is fastened securely in an oblique position to the upper rail of the framing A, and the casing 13, projecting a suitable distance below the casing B, and provided with transverse holes, it, through which pass scrcw-boltsa a.
In fig. 2- v p I O is a section of the lower portion of the rear end of the casing,,provided with a hanging post, D, so-
curely attached to the same.
lhe-uppercnd of the hanging post D projects above the upper edge of the section 0, and has holes, a a, through which pass the screw-bolts ma, which serve to secure it in a substauthl manner tothe oblique post E. I
The detachable section 0 is constructed with holes F E to receive buttsh (F, which secure its forward end to the perpendicularportion of the framing A.
The hanging postD, when thus properly placed and secured, serves as a support for the straw-stacking apparatus to be attached to, both in machines originally constructed with that device and in old ma chines when that device is sought to. be added, thus cfiect-ing economy of room in transportation and economy iu'the cost, applying the straw-stacking apparatus'to machines already in use. 7 1
Having thus fully described my invention,
WhatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
The combination and arrangement in a grain-separator, constructed substantially as described, of the removable sections 0 and hanging posts D and E, as and for'the purpose specified.
' Witnesses: v ABRAM GAAR.
