Be it known that I, DANIEL W. WARDWELL, citizen of the United States, residing at Rome, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Soap-Holders for Shaving-Cups, of which the following is a specification. Y

My present invention pertains to soap holders for shaving cups; and it consists in the simple and eflicient holder hereinafter described and claimed, for supporting a cake of shaving soap above the bottom of a shaving cup with a view to preventing water that is collected in the bottom of the cup from deteriorating the soap or causing waste thereof.

In the accompanying drawings which are hereby made a part hereof: Figure l is a 'view illustrating my novel soap holder as properly positioned in a shaving cup. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective of the disk or platform comprised in the holder. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken in the plane indicated by the line 33 of Fig. 1, looking downward, and showing the holder as a whole in plan.

Similar letters designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings, referring to which:

A. is a conventional shaving cup, and B is the disk or platform of my novel soap holder. The said disk or platform is preferably made of a sheet-metal consonant with its purpose, and is provided at intervals on its edge with integral upstanding projections at which are designed and adapted to hold a cake of shaving soap on the disk and against horizontal movement. The said disk or platform B is of a less diameter than the cup in about the proportion illustrated, in order to permit any excess water to drain from the-cake of soap to the bottom of the cup.

' Disposed below the disk or platform B and arranged at right angles to each other are supports C which have for their func tion to maintain the disk or platform B in spaced relation to the bottom of the cup, and also to hold the soap holder as a whole against casual horizontal movement in the cup. In the present and best practical embodiment of my invention of which I am cognizant, the supports C are in the form of upwardly bowed springs, and are of such a length that each ears at diametrically opposite points in the corner between the bottom and the side wall of the cup. This enables the said supports C to maintain the platform B above the on bottom and against movement horizontally in the cup. It will also be noted that the supports G, by reason of their resiliency, enable the disk B and the cake of soap thereon to give downwardly during the manipulation of a shaving brush on the soap in the making of lather. This yielding support of the disk or platform and the soap serves to facilitate the manipulation of the brush and the production of lather from the soap. Also, in the present and perferred embodiment of my invention, the supports C are connected with the platform B by a rivet D, and the said rivet D is continued upward beyond the disk or platform B and is shaped to form a central upright barb E. This upright barb E is designed to penetrate the cake of soap superposed on the disk or platform, and is also designed when the cake is reduced to a less diameter than that of the disk or platform to hold the cake against casual edgewise movement when a shaving brush is manipulated thereon.

It will be readily appreciated from the foregoing that but little metal is embodied in my novel soap holder, and that its construction is such that it may be produced and sold with profit for a small price; and it will also be appreciated that the holder embraces no delicate parts such as are likely to get out of order after a short period of use, and that it may be expeditiously and easlly cleansed and kept clean.

I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of the parts embraced in the present and best practical embodiment of my invention of which I am cognizant in order to impart a full, clear and exact understanding of thesaid embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as confining myself to the said specific construction and relative arrangement of .parts, as such changes or modifications may be made in practice as fairly fall within the scope of my invention as defined in the claim appended.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:

As a unitary article of manufacture, a soap holder for shaving cups, comprising a platform, and upwardly bowed springs crossed at the underside of the platform and connected therewith; the end and lower portions of said springs extending outward beyond the edge of the platform, whereby the ends of the springs are adapted to-bear in the corner of a receptacle and hold the disk or platform in the central portion of the receptacle.
