DETACHABLE PANEL STRUCTURE FOR FLOOD-GATES.

To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, EDWARD S. Sunrraao, a citizen of the United States, residin at Poplar Blutl', in the county of Butler an State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Panel Structures for F lood-Gates of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawmg.
This invention relates to flood gates, and has particular reference to means for detachably securing the panels of the gate to the sup )ortin posts.
Anot 10X b]0Ct of this invention is the production of an etlicient panel engaging pin which is so secured to the posts of the gate to normall hold the panels in engagsmeat therewiti, and cause the panels to e readily detached therefrom when the gate is thrown to an inoperative position.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:--Figure 1 is a front view of the gate. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 4 is an enlarged front view of the upper end of the ost showing the construction of the pins in etail. Fig. 5 is a front view of the post showin the different positions taken by the pane while bein detached from the pin. Fig. 0 is a side e ovation of the structure disclosed in Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is a detail view showing the manner in which the anels are released from the pins carried y the posts of the gate.
Referring to the drawings by numerals 1 designates the anchor post to which is secured the sill 2. These anchor posts are secured together by means of the brace 3. Panel engaging posts 4 are supported upon the sill 2 and are braced by means of angle; braces 5. Panel engaging pins 6 are secured to the posts 4 in alinement and these pins extend upwardly at thirty degrees and outengagement with the wardly at an angle of approximately sixty degrees so as to prevent the accidental removal of the panels 7 from the pins (3. By reason of this fact, it will be obvious that the panels will not be greatly injured and broken off as now very often happens where the panels are rigidly connected to the posts and since the panels may be readily recovered after the flooding of the stream, the repairs to the flood gate will be greatly reduced.
In Fig. 7 there is illustrated very clearly the manner in which the eyes 8 are automatically detached from the pins 6, and in view of the fact that the pins 6 are pitched at an angle relative to the posts 4, the panels will be, under normal conditions, held in osts 4. \Vhile the eyes 8 are dropping o the pins, the same will take the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5 to cause the loop to readily clear the outer ends of the pins 6.
What is claimed is:-
1. A gate of the class described comprising a support, a base hingedly secured to saldsupport, posts carried by said base, pins carried y said posts, panels engaging said pins and so secured thereto as to be automaticall detached therefrom, when said gate s t irown in an inoperative position.
