To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO BANNER, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Sterkrade, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Journal-Boxes for Rotary Blowers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in rotary blowers or compressors and is directed more particularly to improvements in the journal boxes whereby the several parts are brought into a closer fitting relationship and in which the structure is materially simplified and strengthened.
A practical embodiment of this invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents in top plan a journal box embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a part section and part side elevation taken in the plane of the line A-A of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken in the plane of the line BB of Fig. 2.
The journal box is divided horizontally into upper and lower half sections 1 and 2 and a removable cover 3 for the upper half section. The lower half section 2 of the journal box is formed integral with the lower half sections 4: and 5 of the adjacent low and high pressure cylinder heads of-the rotary blower or compressor and the upper half section 1 of the journal box is formed integral with the upper half sections 6 and 7 ofthe adjacent heads of the said low and high pressure cylinders.
A common fastening means may be provided for securing the upper and lower half sections of the journal box together and for securing the removable cover to the upper half section, which common fastening means may be bolts 8 with their nuts 9, saidbolts passing through adjacent internal flanges 10, 11, of the upper and lower half sections,
and a top internal flange 12 of the upper half section on which the cover 3 rests.
From the above description it will be seen that the only joints or connections between the several parts are horizontal and are thus readily tightened to the desired degree, the removable cover for the upper half section of the journal box serving as a ready means of access to the interior of the journal box.
While I have shown this journal box as an intermediate one between two cylinders, it is to be understood that it may also be used as an end journal box in connection with one end of a cylinder.
It is also evident that various changes might be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence I do not wish to limit myself strictly to the structure herein set forth, but
What I claim is 1. In a rotary blower or compressor, a pair of cylinders having their adjacent heads divided longitudinally and an interposed longitudinally divided journal box having its members formed integral with their corresponding head members.
2. In a rotary blower or compressor, a pair of cylinders having their adjacent heads horizontally divided and an interposed horizontally divided journal box having its members formed integral with their corresponding head members.
