The doors extend longitudinally of the car between the trucks and constitute what may be termed two swinging dumping sections 1 and 2. at opposite sides of the longitudinal center of the car. The shaft 4 is provided at its end with the link or arm 5, which is secured to the shaft so as to rotate or move therewith. Pivotally secured to the free or outer end of the link orarm 5 is a 0 connecting link or bar 6. The other end of this link 6 is pivotally secured to door 1, or
preferably to a lug or bracket 7 secured on the Outer or under side of the door, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The connecting bar or link 6 is preferably composed of two members spread apart, as seen in Fig. 3, orit may be bifurcated and has a sheave S mounted between the bifurcations, preferably at a point near the pivotal connectionof the bar with the door 1. With the arm or link 5 secured between the bifurcations of link 6, as shown in Fig. 3, it is of course necessary to how the connecting bar or link 6 at or near its center as shown. so as to permit the axes of l the respective pivotal points to occupy substantially the same horizontal plane as indicated in Fig. 2. The arm or link-3 is so secured on shaft 4, that it will extend out in a horizontal direction when the doors are So completely closed; and by having the arm or link 5 pivoted between the bifurcations shown in Fig. 2, that is, with their ends iii the same horizontal plane, or at a deadcenter as it were, the doors will be securely locked in closed position. v
Suitably mounted in the plates or brat-k ets 9 and extending transversely of the car at the end of the dumping sections. is ja rotatable shaft'lO, whose outer ends may be provided with any suitable operating device, as for example the hand wheels 11. Secured to said shaft 1.0. and to bc wound about it. is the flexible connection or chain 12. This chain 12 takes beneath sheave 3 mounted on connecting bar 6. and is secured atits other end to the link or arm 5, see Fig. 2. In order to provide a suitable bearing. for the chain 12 and maintain it in place, the end of arm 5 where it is secured to shaft' 1 maybe providedv with a groove at 1 -3, 105 see Fig. or any other suitable method may be employed to receive and maintain the chain against lateral displacement.
