TWO-WHEELED ROLLER-SKATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1912.
Application filed June 22, 1911. Serial No. 634,728.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER JOHAN MOLLINGER, gentleman, a subject of the Queen of the Netherlands, residing at llymegen, 42 van Nispenstraat, in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Two- Wheeled Roller-Skates, of which the following isv a specification.
In the roller skates already known, with two rollers the latter are placed immedi ately in the supporting-frame and therefore with these known two-wheeled roller-skates it is only possible to run in a straight line, but not to make curves, as can be done in figure-skating. According to the present invent-ion, this disadvantage is done away with by the fact that the two rollers are placed each in a special lower frame, and this latter is so placed on the front and hind part of the roller-skate that the free end, provided with a roller, can be turned sidewlse.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure l is a view partly in side elevation and partly in longitudinal section illustrating a roller skate constructed in accordance with my in vention; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the device shown in Fig. 1, certain of the parts being omitted; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line AB of Fig. 2.
The roller skate consists of the supporting plane a, which is firmly attached to the surrounding frame I). On the front and back ends of the latter, arms (Z, which can be turned, are placed on the bolts 0, which arms serve as supports for the rollers 71., and reach to the middle of the roller skate. The free ends 6 of the arms of are used as axles, on which the rollers or wheels f are placed. The wheels f can be made to move in a cofler-like box, open at the bottom 9, which is made in arched shape on the lower surface, and filled with a soft material, such as india-rubber, felt or such like.
The mode of working is as follows: As
whereby they come into position in the direction of the dotted line CD, and enable the course to be made in a curve. The more the person inclines, the farther the wheels give way, and so the more curved lines can be described when skating. The yielding in a side direction can be regulated by making the box 9 wider. The rollers can also be formed as balls and placed accordingly. Also, each wheel f, can be placed in a special box 9, in which case the roller skate can be so arranged that it can be adjusted lengthwise.
I claim:
1. device of the character described comprlsing a supporting frame, an arm piv otally held by the frame and capable of movement transversely of the frame, a supporting roller carried by the arm, a guiding roller carried by the free end of such arm and means carried by the frame engageable with the guiding roller for imparting movement to the arm.
2. device of the character described comprising a supporting frame, an arm pivotally held by the frame and capable of movement transversely of the frame, a roller carried by such arm, and an arch-shaped box carried by the frame, the free end por tion of the arm extending within such arch and engageable therewith.
3. device of the character described comprising a supporting frame, an arm pivotally held by the frame and capable of movement transversely of the frame, a roller carried by such arm, and an arch-shaped box carried by the frame, the free end por" tion of the arm extending within such arch and a roller carried by the arm adapted to engage the arch.
4:. A device of the character described comprising a frame, an arm rotatably held to the frame by a fixed pivot, a guiding roller carried by the free end of the arm and means carried by the frame engageable with the guiding roller to move said arm transversely of the frame.
5.
