T0 all whom it may concern;

'Be it known that I, HUZEB A. MALO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hammond, in the county of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the t'ollowing'is a speciiication.

This invention relates to that class of horseshoes which are in sections, one section being permanently secured to the animals hoof and the other being attached in such a manner that it may be removed and renewed when it becomes worn.

It is the object of the invention to provide in a shoe of the kind stated, an improved fastening for the removable section, whereby said section may be easily and quickly detached and renewed, and also to provide a structure which adapts the shoe to different sized hoofs, as well as to hoofs which are sore and cannot endure pressure.

In order that the invention may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the shoe. The detachable section is indicated at 11, said section being provided with a toe-calk 12 and heel-calks 13. The toe portion of the section 11 has a tongue 14C projecting inward, from its inner edge, and at the outer edge of said section, on top thereof, is an upstanding flange 15 which ts around the outer edgeot the section 10 and holds the section 11 against lateral movement. The section 10 has nail-holes 16 and is adapted to be nailed on the hoof in the same manner as any ordinary shoe. tion of the section 11 is made fast to the corresponding portion of the section 10. The section 10 also has the usual toe-piece 19.

At the heel portions of the section 10 are depending studs 2O which pass into apertures 21 in the corresponding portions of the section 1l, rI he outer ends of the studs have threaded apertures to receive screw bolts 22, whereby the heel portions of the section 11 are held against separation from the corresponding portions of the section 10, the heads of the screw bolts engaging the bottom of the section 11. The studs 2O are also connected by a transverse plate or bar 23, the ends of the latter having slots 211 to receive the studs. The heel-portions of the section 10 are reduced in thickness, as indicated at 25, and the ends of the plate 23 lie between said reduced portions and the heelportions of the section 11. By thus reducing the heel-portions of the section 1() to accommodate the plate 23, the section 11 may be level with the section 10. rI`he slots 24 allow the heel-portions of the sections to be brought closer together or spread, accord ing to the width and condition of the hoof. The plate 23 has an intermediate enlarged portion 26 which is bent upward to come flush with the top of the section 10, and against the bottoni of the hoof, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2, so that a front rest for the same is had.

10 and 11 is interposed a gasket 27 of rubber or other suitable cushioning material to deaden the noise and cushion the treadsection 11 of the slice.

By the herein described fastening the tread-section of the shoe can be easily and quickly detached and renewed, and said sec tion can also be readily adjusted to different sized hoofs, or hoots that are sore and cannot stand pressure.

I claim:
