The -Slc zec'ilcreferred. to in these Letters Patent and naliing part of the same turn, gears' into the cogfwheel Hf. s .y
Directlyiabove the trough are placedtihe side pieces4 `1I,- supporting the fixed ,surface J and roller li, the
purpose of which willbe explained hereinafter. y
L and L2 are the pressure-ro'llers, provided with journals l l2, upon one endot whiclrjournals are keyed thegear-Wheels and H, the former one of which gears into the geaiwheel VH.
l The journals Z2 ai'eiheld in movable boxes moving in the giooved `ways inv the upright pieces a, and above them are the regulatingscrews I, by which the position ofthe pressure-'roller- L2, relatively 4to the pressure-roller L, maybe regulated as desired.
These regulating screws M are held cured upon the upright pieces forming portions of thev fi'ame-work A i O shows a spindle, niovingiieely in thestandards l?, secured upon the frame-work Aj, which spindles may be .placed above and in advance of the pressure-roller L2.

`Such being the construction, the operation is as follows:
teiial to be united, and form the rooingabrio, which thicknesses are wound upon the spindles O and R."
l ',lhe' trough may `be-illed, or partially lfilled, with the -to unite the tw thicknesses of felt oi` ylike material, and thefuel inthe re-box maybe ignited that the cement may be kept warm while being applied npoii like material, while'theregulatng screws M are delire-roller 1L, relatively to the pressure-roller L, may `be adjusted to correspond tothe thickness of the matcrial employedaud the amount of pressure required to unite the thicknesses ci' felt, or like material, employed. Y

andhaving upon one of its journalsjacrank or handle,
W andX show the two thicknesses'of felt or like rnaf` roofing-cement, plastic slate, or other material used` pressed or elevated, so that the positionofthe pressi the underside of one of the thicknessesif felt oi: .Y
These preliminaries having been arranged, and the cement contained in the trough C beingin proper condition for the purpose, one thickness of felt, orlike material, is Wound otf oi' the spindle R, passes over the spindle Q, and is received upon the roller K and fixed surlace J, directly above the cylinder F, which, by means of the crank or handle Y, and thegear-wheels H? and H, is made to revolve in the trough O, taking up, in its revolution, a quantity of the cement and imparting thev same to the under side of the thickness of felt or like material, as it `is brought into contact with the same, the presence of the roller K and iixed surface J tending, in a great degree, to sustain the thickness of felt, orlike material, employed, kcepingit even and preventing the same from wrinkling up.
The thickness of felt, or like material, having been coated with the cement, now passes to the pressurerollers L and L2, and the coated side of the fnbricnow becomes (so to speak) the 'upper side, and is met at this pointbythe thickness ot' felt, orlike material, lV, wound ott' of the spindleO, and. the tno thicknesses ol' felt, or like material, pass between the rollers L and L2 and are thoroughly` united by the cement applied,
as described, to one of the thicknesses of felt, or like material.
As, during the operation of supplying the cementI to one of the thicknesses ot' felt or like material, the same is exhausted, or partially so, from the trough, the position of the cylinder in 4the trough is altered from. time to time by the screws G, so that the cylinder may bedepressed further into the trough as the cement is reduced in quantity therein.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure. by LettersPatent, is-
l. Lhe combination, with the trough O and adjustable cylinder F, of the fixed surface J, roller K, and spindles O and R, when the same shall be constructed and operate substantially as and for the purpose specilied.
2. The combination, with the subject matter of the rst clau'se ot' claim, of the pressure-rollers L and L2, reggulatinf:r screws M, and cylinder T, when the same for thc purposes set forth. y
EDWARD VAN ORDEN.
